Hello everyone. I'm so excited that Funi licensed Future Diary (Mirai Nikki). I finally watched it all on this site and it's one of my favorite anime. I plan to get the DVDs when they come out, but does anyone know if there's any hope the manga will be distributed in the states again?
It was being translated by Tokyopop, but, well... it wasn't all released before the company went under.
I think there were only a few volumes left to go before the whole series would have been done, too. It's a manga that I would really love to have. Does anyone know if any other companies plan to pick up the rights for series that Tokyopop used to have? I'd like to hope that if the anime is popular here, some interest will pop up for the manga and then it might have a chance to be released again, but I'm not sure if such a hope would be realistic, sadly.
Anyone have any thoughts or know about similar situations with other former Tokyopop manga? I really just want Tokyopop back.

Well, you can count on Yen Press, Viz, or Dark Horse Manga to re-release Future Diary, alongside with Deadman Wonderland, Hetalia, Ai Yori Aoshi, and Fruits Basket.

Why would you want Tokyopop back, horrid company, well OK the company wasn't bad, just the person in charge *Stu Levy* But yes as mentioned there is always a chance one of the other manga publishers will save Future Diary, just have to play the waiting game.

The biggest problem I would guess at is contracts. Most contracts have a bankruptcy clause, but as TP is not such, that would not be enacted. I'd guess that some of the contracts did have a release upon ceasing printing in the US, which led to Viz's rescue of Loveless fairly quickly. I'd also guess that a fair number of them... we're going to have to wait for the licenses to expire, and then, we have a whole new can of worms. Is it worth rescuing if there were only 1-2 volumes left to go? Will there still be a viable fanbase in a few years when it runs out? Was TP actually losing money on it? And, perish the thought of things like Aria, which have now been cancelled twice.
There is a wildcard in this to complicate matters- Tokyopop's corpse. TP has paired with RightStuf to keep a couple of things going, such as Hetalia. And throwing salt in the wounds, there have been rumors of TP thinking about reentering the market. (Though truthfully, if I were doing licenses, I'd not want to work with them after this!) So I think there's going to be a fairly significant number of titles lost from this, and trickles of information (and rescues) for at least another 5 years. Hold on, we're in for a long ride...
