Re: Bleach Manga Discussion [may contain spoilers]
Indeed. New chapter was interesting.
Apparently, Ichigo is only one of five 'special weapons.' That conveniently sounds like the number of the main cast. XD [I'm guessing the other four are Rukia, Orihime, Uryu, and Chad]
Speaking of Uryu, we hear from Kirge that he's apparently supposed to be more powerful than him. [I guess the Ishidas are a special family of Quincy?]
Stern Ritter, an elite group of Vandenreich, goes on with the invasion of the Soul Society with the rest of the organization [The King was shown to be going there too if I remember correctly] as they reach it at the chapter's end.
The Seireitei has always been remotely untouchable. I am very curious to see what comes out of this group invading them full-on. [It's not the same as with Ichigo's rather small rescue team from the second arc]
Re: Bleach Manga Discussion [may contain spoilers]
Man, Kirge sure is a tough one.
Kirge has a fearsome ability indeed. He can convert the reishi not only of buildings and monuments, but those of spiritual beings as well.
Meaning that Ichigo and his friends can be stripped past the bone and absorbed just like Ayon was.
With that level of his being shown, there was never a more appropriate time for Ichigo to go Bankai. [He wasn't making much headway with Shikai at that point. The guy shook off a Getsuga fired point-blank]
Hey, it's a mass improvement over using it against the unreleased base forms of the Espada. [Kirge powered up at least twice]
I'm just surprised that the Tres Bestias didn't more immediately recognize Orihime. The latter did kinda save their beloved leader, Hallibel.
Still not all that used to Ichigo threatening to kill his opponents. Not a bad change, but still...may have been stronger had Kirge not dehumanized himself first.
Meanwhile, the Vandenreich King lets loose some explosions and makes that awesome proclomation of 'Wars are tough.'
Surprised that Yuki was the only one who seemed to notice the King was already inside the Shakonmaku.
And with that, the invasion of the Seireitei begins.
Re: Bleach Manga Discussion [may contain spoilers]
Hope this will be my last consecutive post with how things have gotten.
Now this was an epic and shocking start to the war.
Everyone jumps off to their posts with even Rukia rushing into the battlefield.
Izuru and his seated officers are rather brutally dispatched with Izuru being possibly the second major SS character to fall at the hands of the Vandenreich.
And then we see the individual members of Vandenreich's elite group, the Stern Ritter [which translates to Star Knights] with who I assume to be the leading member telling the Shinigami that their days are numbered as they've been ordered with complete extermination.
Almost like a reversal of the Shinigami's extermination of Quincies.
Re: Bleach Manga Discussion [may contain spoilers]
Personally I was shocked when Izuru died just like that .__. considering that he is one of the major characters (though he is one of the lesser ones.) It makes me think that he won't be the last. It's sad when you think your favorite character just might die during this time of war

Re: Bleach Manga Discussion [may contain spoilers]
Chapter 496 was an okay chapter! Chapter was going good until the Captains got fodderized due to the Sternritter's trolling.
This chapter is why I don't think highly of the VR. The VR need to steal the Captain's Bankais in order to defeat them in a fight. That just automatically tells you that the VR aren't that strong and that Bankais can defeat them.
If the VR were so almighty and buff, why the need to steal the Captain's Bankais in the first place?
I seriously think this is just another excuse for Kubo not to reveal Bankais.
Anyway, I do like that it's going to be Captains and their VCs fighting together in this war. This means that the VCs are actually going to be very important and useful, which is great. I'm hoping ALL the VCs are going to get to fight then.
And because of this Captain and VC fighting together development, I'm even more pissed that Kira got one-shotted. It would've been the perfect opportunity to see Rose and Kira interacting with each other and to see how much stronger Kira got.
It's so dumb how Kira is going to most likely be the only VC who doesn't get to do any fighting in this war.
If Rose's Bankai gets stolen, then I think it's going to be Love who comes and helps him aganist Nananana.
Re: Bleach Manga Discussion [may contain spoilers]
Hey, Sennen. Haven't heard from you in a while in the usual places. [FT manga thread's been feeling a bit empty]
The latest chapter conveys to me the opposite. It's not that Vandenreich can't win otherwise. It's that they're robbing the enemy of the only means to even match them.
And spending a whole millennium in preparation for this, why wouldn't they take such precautions?
In light of their mission, I highly doubt they're interested in fair play. And in this particular war, there's no Geneva Convention.
I also love the Captain/Vice Captain team-ups going on here.
My full chapter review:
Interesting seeing Tentaikurra again.
Also noticed that Rangiku has a leg slit in her uniform now. As if she wasn't fetish fuel enough without showing some leg. LOL
They'll have quite a time fighting these guys without Bankai. According to how they [mainly Shunsui and Renji] worded it, it's not even a question of beating them but matching them at all. [Of course, Kenpachi doesn't have Bankai and thus he can fight to his own fullest]
I always wince when I see eye injuries, so it really made me wince to see Shunsui lose his.
And against another gun-wielder, no less. Hahaha!
And now Akon sees no choice but to contact Ichigo. But last we saw, he was still combating the Hunter Squad captain who was left in charge of Hueco Mundo.
Guess he would be the one to call as he negated a Vandenreich member's Bankai-stealing medallion before. [But SS shouldn't know that. They haven't been in contact after that event]
Vandenreich is really shaping to be my favorite villain group.
Let me put it into perspective here. They've wiped out over a third of the entire Seiretei/Gotei 13 in under seven minutes. Including one, possibly two Vice Captains
Bambietta is shaping up to be my favorite so far. In stark contrast to how she's designed, she's just as ruthless as her comrades in VR and I just loved how she called Komamura a puppy. Hahaha! XD
Re: Bleach Manga Discussion [may contain spoilers]
Just read Chapter 498!
I really wish we didn't have to spend an entire chapter in HM. Totally broke the momentum with what's happening in SS!
It was really unneccessary to waste so much time with Akon talking to Urahara. I really don't like how Urahara was just sitting there doing nothing this entire time!
It seems that the VR are not as strong as they are made out to be as the reason they steal Bankais is that they fear the power of Bankais. I knew the reason they stole Bankais was because they have no chance aganist the Shinigami who can use Bankai.
From this chapter, Ichigo was obviously surpassing Kirge so I don't get why Kirge is still alive. And FINALLY, Urahara does something, but why did he just wound Kirge and not kill him?
Finally, Ichigo is heading to SS where the good stuff is happening. But I don't get why Urahara isn't going to SS with him? Isn't the situation in SS an EMERGENCY situation?????
I really hope we don't waste an entire chapter with Ichigo running through the Dangai next week.
Re: Bleach Manga Discussion [may contain spoilers]
Alright chapter, but I really think it's too soon for Ichigo to go to SS already. [Not to mention Kirge's end being anticlimatic, anticlimatic, and more anticlimatic]
Though since when did...I don't know...strategy become cowardly? -____-
Looking forward to hopefully some more from who are my favorite antagonist army in the whole series. And I can actually call them an army instead of just a group like the previous two. [Of course, I do root for Ichigo, but he better not repel the invasion]
Oh well. Obviously, Kirge isn't at the same level as the King nor even the Stern Ritter, Vandenreich's elite. [all of whom are undebatably at the higher tiers of the spectrum]
Kisuke's funny antics and Tensa Zangetsu's speed being relevant again were the high points for me this week.
---
A few things I really liked this chapter.
1. We got a more to-date count of the damages and casualties sustained by SS. All from 16 individuals, none of whom have lost against their opposition.
2. Hearing the Stern Ritter were Captain level and possibly above. I would definitely hope so. [which re-affirms to me that their theft of Bankai is 100% strategy, befitting of even a real military. Not cowardice. Strategy...This is a good concept in combat. Kinda helps a side gain advantages.]
3. Kubo had us thinking Ichigo would pop in to save the day and that would be that. Now much as I love Ichigo, I didn't want it to happen this soon or just like that.
So the critically wounded Kirge [whom Kisuke had underestimated] scored some great villain points by sealing off the exit and trapping Ichigo so he couldn't help the Soul Society. Very good move by Kubo, I must say.
Re: Bleach Manga Discussion [may contain spoilers]
Just read Chapter 499! This chapter was just stalling!
I don't understand why almost the entire first half of this chapter was needed to give Ichigo a status report on SS, which we, as the readers, already knew. That could've been done off-panel.
I suppose the VR abilities update that Urahara gave to Ichigo and Akon was important, but it didn't need to take up almost the entire second half of the chapter. Plus, Urahara didn't even mention the importance of destroying the Halo on the VR's heads that cause them to weaken in some capacity or something. Is that not important anymore or did Urahara just forget?
And why is Kirge still alive?! I feel like Urahara should've been alot smarter than this. He knows that the VR are strong enemies, yet he thought that a mere Hadou (which looked like Hadou #4 White Lightning) was gonna be able to bring him down? Urahara was watching the battle the entire time so he should've prepared Benihime to strike a killing blow on Kirge.
It's like the characters are dumbed down just to prolong stuff!
And just when I said last week that I hoped we wouldn't waste time with Ichigo running through the Dangai, here comes this week's chapter and we do just that: Waste time running in the Dangai.hapter 499!
