Re: Dub Cast Speculation

I've read a few suggestions that Colleen Clinkenbeard should voice Fujiko.

I'm not in agreement... so if this show does get a dub I'd prefer for this to not happen.

I like Colleen and she's a great actress but I think she's been overused for far too long.

I think the woman is tapped out and has used every voice she has in her arsenal.

Some fans enjoy hearing particular voices from certain VAs being reused again for certain characters (typecasting), but when it comes to lead roles in my opinion there should be some variety in casting.

Aside from the reasons already mentioned by others (Colleen already voicing past Lupin characters and the possible Case Closed/Lupin TV Special situation if that ever got licensed) I doubt Colleen would sound and act any different than a past role she did in another show.

I think it's nice that recently Colleen is an ADR Director for several shows; good break from being cast too often (yet she still casts herself in supporting roles... HA!)

Maybe she should direct the dub for this show? Give the dub a woman's touch.

No offense to Sonny Strait who directed the Lupin titles Funimation once licensed but it's been years since he's directed anything and he's probably only familiar with the range and acting ability of a few individuals.

If not Colleen then I think Christopher Bevins would also be a great choice as the ADR Director.

I heard he's a big comic book/graphic novel fan and this seems like his type of show.

As for the cast choices for the main 5. I'll assume that Sonny Strait, Chris Sabat and Mike McFarland will reprise their characters.

If they didn't I'd be pretty surprised. That would be awkward... but it's not like those awkward situations haven't happened before for recasts (e.g. Frieza in DBZ Kai)

My suggestions for the new Fujiko (unless we're all surprised and Meredith McCoy returns despite being inactive) are either Jamie Marchi or Lydia Mackay.

My suggestions for the new Zenigata (unless we're all surprised and Phillip Wilburn returns despite not working for FUNimation for years) are Mark Stoddard or Brian Mathis.

Re: Dub Cast Speculation

FUNimation has licensed a few shows (to be released in 2013) with women as the main characters.

Obviously it would be lazy to cast the same actress as the lead for all those shows so here's what I'm thinking.

Lupin the 3rd: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine

Fujiko Mine - Jamie Marchi

Michiko & Hatchin

Michiko - Colleen Clinkenbeard

Jormungand

Koko - Lydia Mackay

Re: Dub Cast Speculation

Now that it's official that FUNi has the show, I wanted to weigh in on this. ^_^

Lupin - Sonny Strait. I think he did great in the older stuff FUNi licensed, and he has a ton more experience now, so he'll only be that much better.

Fujiko - ???. I'm honestly not sure who I want here. Colleen Clinkenbeard would be good, but so would Jamie Marchi or maybe even Stephanie Young...any of those three would be great actually.

Jigen - Christopher Sabat. I think he was a pretty good Jigen, and I can't imagine anyone else in FUNi's stable playing the character, so let's keep him.

Goemon - ???. I'm honestly unsure who I want here too. I wasn't fond of Mike McFarland in the role in the past (he did Yajirobe-ish yells for the battle stuff which was odd to me), but maybe he'd do better now, as he has a TON more experience nowadays too.

Zenigata - Patrick Seitz. I second the thought that he could probably be a good new Zenigata for them. I would prefer if Phillip Wilburn returned, but I don't think he would, and this is a less silly Zenigata anyway from my understanding.

Re: Dub Cast Speculation

Colleen Clinkenbeard is good at sexy but her sexy voice is a bit too low and heavy.

Fujiko's voice in my opinion should be a bit lighter so I agree with others who said Jamie Marchi; plus she has no problem with anime nudity while Clinkenbeard has surprisingly started to use an alias in some fanservice dubs. hmm

I hope Sonny Strait doesn't just sound like Krillin and I hope Chris Sabat doesn't just use his regular voice (bit deeper but not too deep).

Goemon is the youngest so maybe he should have a new voice actor? Mike McFarland isn't as young as he used to be and whenever he does voice young males they're either very whiny or gruff.

Maybe Andrew Love or Jason Liebrecht should voice Goemon

Anyways I heard Funimation will release this for summer 2013

Re: Dub Cast Speculation

I really hope they don't use Sonny Strait, but I imagine I won't get my wish. If so I will just watch it subs-only. I am one of those people who likes dubs and subs, and alternate viewings between the two -- *if* the dub is good! Otherwise I just stick to subs.
tear I just get irritated paying more for a release b/c it has a dub, but a dub cast that sucks or a performance that sucks, even if the actors on occasion do okay.

Re: Dub Cast Speculation

You can officially knock one name off the board. We have our Lupin, and it will indeed be Sonny Strait.

AAANNNND I can now officially announce that Funimation will be dubbing Lupin III again and I will be reprising the role of Arsene Lupin III himself. I can't give out any other details at this time but I will say this is the coolest version I've seen of the gentleman thief. In my opinion it's the closest in drawing style to Monkey Punch's original manga.

Re: Dub Cast Speculation

Ugh. Sonny Strait plays him like Lupin The Nerd. You just want to give his Lupin a wedgie. It will not fit in well with the more adult flavor of this series and the cool, confident Lupin. Not that it ever fit before.

I'm a fan more of Bob Bergen's Lupin to Sonny Strait's

Re: Dub Cast Speculation

Possible update:

According to Michelle Ruff's Facebook page, she went down to Texas to record her first ever role with FUNimation.

https://www.facebook.com/MichelleRuffVoiceoverFanPage/posts/450283515026652

People are already speculating that since she's a former Fujiko actress, and because Meredith McCoy has largely quit voice acting, that she might be reprising her role for this show.

It's all still speculation and rumor at this point, however.
