For those who haven't seen, Maaya Sakamoto will be singing the opening of Last Exile: Fam the Silver Wing, which is called "Buddy." It was composed by School Lunch Punishment (ED group for Eden of the East and C) and Ryo Eguchi. So far, there's no news on who's doing the ending theme.
No Shuntaro Okino? I hope this is not one of many disappointments. I was really hoping for bagpipes.
This series starts off strong and gets stronger but then the story starts to fall apart.
Spoiler: Highlight to view
Dio just falls from the sky to his death? How disappointing. That arc had no payoff. And the Exile didn't make sense with what they had been planning at the end of the first series.
Was there a love triangle between Claus, Lavie and Tatiana? What was that all about? The XO kisses Claus but then... nothing??
Series ends first season with wayyy too many questions. Relationship between Claus and Dio could have been spectacular, so interesting.
Oh well. Maybe the next season will make up for the poor ending of season 1.
About Dio:
Spoiler: Highlight to view
He doesn't die. He speaks with the rest of the crew when they begin to chant "Ascend." There's also a piece of art from the end of the series depicting Dio just off screen and greeting the others who are on Earth. The writers also confirmed that Dio was picked up by a passing ship after he fell.
I agree with you on the triangle though. It was so poorly done and never explored to an extent where it's enjoyable in the least.
I just read on Wikipedia that the world of Last Exile S1 is named "Prester," and I wonder if it's related to the myth of Prester John: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prester_John

I wouldn't count on it. If you look at the Japanese Wikipedia entry for Prester John, they call him "Puresutaa" while the Japanese name for the world of Last Exile is "Puresuteeru". I think the world was originally supposed to be called Prestale.

Just because a certain person isn't going to be doing a theme song doesn't automatically mean that the series wil have disappointments. However, if that's how you want to feel, I won't stop you. I am fine with Sakamoto doing the opening theme. She's an awesome singer. You can hear her sing when you watch the second promo video for Last Exile: Fam the Silver Wing.It seems that Last Exile: Fam the Silver Wing will premiere a week after the special that will air on October 7, which means that the series will start in Japan (and here) on or around October 14.
ANN confirmed Funimation licensed it for streaming a while, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will simulcast. I hope they announce something soon, as the new series airs in less than 2 days... All I see are Guilty Crown ads and links for NYAF everywhere...

Is Funi simulcasting this series? If so, when will it start streaming on their site?

Just watched episode 02, wow...
I can honestly say I am already loving this series more than the first (which I liked a lot).
