I think he made the right choice myself, but only because had he chosen who I would have, it would have been weird.
Ayu was adorable with her 'uguu' noises, and was definitely sweet. If it weren't for his relation to her though, I'd say he should have went for Nayuki, as she was adorably ditzy, and they had a lot in common.

Now see I have huge hangup with him picking Ayu. Ayu just does not have the maturity to fufill the need of a HS Senior. I can see her as a little sister in the same form as Nayuki but in the realm of having Ayu as a gf is kindoff sick.

He should have gone with Nayuki. She was my least favourite, so that leaves Ayu, Mai and Shiori free for my harem

I've always thought Shiori and Yuuichi clicked the best. Out of all his relationships that one seemed the most normal for HS teenagers. Mai would be the second pick but I think she has always had a different lover.

I would hope for Mai too followed by Nayuki even if they were cousins.
As to the comment about Nayuki being least favorite she also didn't get her own arc in the story line so it kinda makes sense to be least favorite since we knew the least about her maybe?
Personally I think Yuichi made the right choice. They'd both cared about each other for a very long time and their feelings were still there. Frankly, any love strong enough to work miracles strikes me as pretty worthy. I can agree though that Ayu isn't the most mature character in the series but then
Nayuki is a great young lady, on her way to being just like her mother, but it's pretty obvious Yuichi never had particularly strong feelings for her, at least with the anime. She's too much like family.
Makoto and he had some great tension and chemistry given they both had such warped senses of humor but her
Shiori might be my personal favorite and she and Yuichi could have made a great couple too. I think she'd be my second choice for Yuichi but I still think he made the right choice in the series.
Maybe my Yuri goggles are turned up to 11 but Mai and Sayuri in my mind are way too perfect together for it to stay just a platonic friendship. Mai had that strong best friend vibe or cool older sister thing going with Yuichi in my opinion rather than a romance. The dance scene was wonderful and a bit shipy but Mai's strongest emotions seemed to center on Sayuri.
Long post short: Yuichi made the right choice for him.
Although TIL Nobu's suggestion would have been. . . interesting.

Personally I think Yuichi and Shiroi should have been put together. If not her then Either Mai or Nayuki. I feel they should have just left Ayu as a spirt that was able to come back to help Yuichi get his memoires back and help the other gilrs. But Shiori is my #1 pick for him and my personal fav.

I think that Yuuichi made the right choice; it's much more romantic than the other options. Ayu was in a coma for seven years always dreaming of Yuuichi, so much that her dreams became real in a sense. At first I kinda wasn't too happy with him picking Ayu, but watching until the end really changed my mind and broke my heart. (I was a Shiori supporter until the series finished) You could argue that she was a kid but in reality she was the same age as him, anyways it's way better than the incest supporters here think the show should have been. Kanon was a truly moving anime and will always be in my top favorite along side Clannad, Air, and Nana.
