Saddest Moments

Spoiler: Highlight to view

1 – Mai’s Childhood (Episode 15)
The saddest scene for me takes place at the school, after all of the demons are destroyed. Mai’s childhood and her affiliation with Yuichi are revealed and we see what made her the person she is and why she protects the school at night. The wheat fields in which they used to play were cleared to build that school. (Mai’s my favourite character.)

2 – Shiori’s Birthday Night (Episode 18)
Shiori’s the cutest character, in my opinion. The fountain in this scene is beautiful and complements the mood of the story. It comes no surprise to me that her storyline is almost finished, and the writers made an amazing close to Shiori’s story arc before moving on to the rest of the series. Shiori’s happiness despite her body’s weakness represents a sense of hope and optimism.

3 – Ayu’s Disappearance and Yuichi’s Realization (Episode 23-24)
From the beginning I knew that Ayu was probably not human because of her immaturity and naivety for her age. As more of Ayu’s past is revealed and how the 17-year-old Ayu hasn’t changed a bit, I began to suspect that she died and became a ghost. The scene when Yuichi finds the red headband beside the tree stump and realizes that Ayu was an illusion was one of the saddest moments near the end.
