it really depends on your preference, in a ways yes its a harem but its not like most harem shows where the main male in everybodys bit** the main charcater here actually has balls and actually has personality.

My preference in harems is to have no harem period. The main male character having balls or a lack-there-of isn't my concern, just whether or not there is a group of girls fawning over one guy.

The show doesn't play out like a typical harem. Sure, there are a bunch of girls around this one guy, but none of them show him much affection. But I don't know you're tastes, so it might just be better to check out a few episodes on Cruncyroll.

I never watched it because it had the word zombie in the title and I can't stand shows about zombies. Did this anime actually have a conclusion or was it open ended?

So I will defer to those who have seen it, is this series an actual harem, a harem parody or none of the above?

It sort of tries to be a parody without really subverting anything. It just takes prominent anime tropes and then dials them to 11 for comic effect. I would call it a harem that doesn't take harems seriously. It's not really the main focus of the show. The show really doesn't have a main focus. It sort of shifts between comedy, drama, shounen battle and back again resulting in serious mood whiplash. As if the writers simply got bored and decided to change things up every other episode. It does make it interesting to watch, but it sort of ends up as three half-finished shows held together by the characters.

I didn't see it as a harem type series, I mean, yes, Ayumu did have three girls living with him (one of them had to so that he could still move and what not), but there wasn't much in the way of ecchi stuff. Maybe a few panty shots but that was it.

It may be set up like a harem but I din't see it being one. Not when you compare it to so many other harem type animes.

YES!!!!! This was my favorite Winter anime this year. I can't wait to get my hands on the DVD whenever it comes out.

It had a conclusion, however the light novels are still ongoing, so we may see more of this series than just that OVA that was announced earlier.

I don't know why I haven't posted on here yet, but anyways, I'm really happy to see that this series got licensed. It was one of my two favorites from last season, not sure if it was number one or number two, so I call it a tie. Anyways, I think that it's great that Funi licensed it, and will be pre-ordering it ASAP when it comes up on RightStuf.

As for whether or not it's a harem. Yes there are several girls that end up living with the main character, but as has already been stated... that's not the point. Few of the girls show him much of any affection, and the occasional ecchi content doesn't seem to mesh with the way most harems play it out. The number one difference between this series and most harem series is the lack of "competition" over the main character.
Sorry if you were expecting Shuffle! or Negima?! This show is nothing like that.
This show would be much better labeled primarily as a comedy with sub-genres of action and drama, and... a sub-sub-genre of harem. It's kind of there... but not really.

I feel the need to add one last thing. In reference to the "If you enjoyed this show, you may like..." I'd say that of the listed shows, Angel Beats is the show most like this one of the three. "Heaven's Lost Property," "Baka and Test," and "Angel Beats." I'm not so sure about the other two, because I haven't seen enough of them. I can say that I loved both "Angel Beats" and "Is This a Zombie?"
