Old anime fan, new to dubs

I've been an anime fan for a long time but i always watched subs. There's practically zero exposure to dubbed anime(sometimes im glad about it) where i live so it's this way with all the anime fans i know. But thanks to Toonami, i've been checking out Funimation's dubs and i was really impressed. I decided to jump back on english dubbed anime. I'm glad I don't have to fear bad dubs anymore and figured i should join the community. So here i am shocked

So far i've seen the dubs of Baka & Test, Fractale, Deadman Wonderland, Casszune and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. I'm really looking forward to Michko & Hatchin next year.

I'm also a hardcore manga fan.

Welcome to the forums. Its always good to have Old-school fans joing our group. Just a warning for ya though don't get to comfy with the dubs. They still have a lot of the same problems they did when we were paying extra for sub releases on VHS, its just that the TV releases have made dubs more mainstream and Dub fans a lot less picky about the quality of the dubs. Sorry for being a negative nelly but you still got to watch out for the bad dub..

I always watch dubs, cause I'm too lazy to look at bottom of the screen.

Hello and welcome to the Funimation forums!! kitty I primarily watch subs, but usually try the first episode of a show in dubs to hear if it will be any good. Surely there are instances where you can laugh at the dub; I know I've had a few experiences with that. tongue Who knows? Maybe you'll find some new love in old shows you used to watch sub-only. wink

Well, I hope you have a wonderful time on here posting around and making many new friends!! smile

Welcome to the site. I'm kind of the reverse of you (I started with dubs, now I mostly watch subs). Both have their merits and each creates a unique viewing experience. Subtitles allow you to experience the anime in its native language and you can understand puns and wordplay better; stuff like this can be lost in translation. However, dubbed series are also good since if Japanese is not your first language it will be easier for you to connect with the show. I think dubbed anime is awesome because it helps people get into liking anime in general. I agree with Audri that some dubs are just plain bad, but that shouldn't turn you off to all dubs. Anyways, welcome again to the site, hope to see you post more in the future.
