Since there is no board for this show yet, I'll post it here and wait for it to be moved.

FUNimation announced yesterday that they acquires home video and simulcast rights to 'High School DxD'. The simulcast for the series on be Mondays at 4pm CT and it will be available on DVD/Blu-Ray in sometime in the future.

Yeah, I'll give Funimation one thing, they have their target audience nailed down. Apparently I'm not in it, but I can't really fault Funi for chasing the mighty dollar. In the end, I guess I should at least be glad people are still releasing stuff like Redline and Madoka in the US, but Funi does tend to make higher quality products for more reasonable prices. It's just too bad I wouldn't actually pay money for most of their series.

When did the discrimination by genre start? hmm

There's no such thing as inferiority in genres. If one doesn't exactly prefer a certain genre, that's not really the company's problem. It's his or hers.

Not that there aren't multiple genres to select from and each rightfully has its viewer-base to appreciate it.

At any rate, not a bad acquisition, I guess. Haven't seen enough of it to say any more than that. ^___^

You do know they wouldn't bother with these ecchi titles if they didn't sell well in the past and if they did get it the others would have. I've see one episode and it's better than Demon King Daimao( a St. Sentai title) IMO

@ Sora & Renzo: As I am fairly anti-ecchi most of the time myself I can see where your coming from, however judging a book by its cover is just as shallow as those ecchi shows you despise so. Personally i wait till after I watch at least an episode or two before I rant about how much of a 1-dimensional poorly written fan pandery ecchi-fest somthing is, lol.

And again ecchi in and of itself isn't bad, its just overutalized or misused in many series. But yeah, I for one think this could be one of the few series in the genere that could manage to be genuinly entertaining despite itself. I mean I may be bias as this is the 1st ecchi series that has caught my eye in a positive light since Tenjo Tenge (Which OK thats not really ecchi as much as it is a shonen fighter with some ecchi...but you get my point.)

I for one am very happy about this announcment. Highschool DXD looks like a fun/smexy supernatural action series. I look foward to watching the stream when I can, and buying the DVD/BD combo pack later this year.

I don't know. A long time ago is about all I could say.
Just cause its ecchi or fanservicy doesn't mean it can't be a good show or be funny.

Oh you *takes out rocket launcher aims & fires at NJ*

But yeah, this looks like a fun series, hopefully my PC will be back from the shop by the time the streams are up (been using the family PC/ and my cellphone the past week. I swear as soon as I have the money I'm buyin a mac!)

But yeah BOT, the synopsis for this show sounds pretty fun, and really the premise isn't that diffrent from Familiar of Zero. Unlucky (or very lucky depending on how you look at it, lol) dimwit becomes the manslave of some girl with magical powers. Only this time instead of a pink-haired tsundere its a powerful busty red-headed demon gal.

So yeah I think it'll be a pretty fun series overall, and at the very least...better then most of the other ecchi titles companies bring over...in my personal opinion anyway.

And before I go, speaking of streams & announcments...wonder if Funi will have anything to announce at the upcoming con on the 27th-28th. I doubt they would have any new titles...but I for one am hoping for some release dates on some of the Genon stuff, maybe some voice cast announcments...another stream if were lucky.

Re: FUNimation acquires ''High School DxD'

It seems like we have this argument every season, doesn't it Soundmonkey?

I don't hate ecchi, I really don't. Not on a fundamental level, anyways. I rather enjoyed Ben-to from last season, and I'm rather looking forward to the dub for Asobi ni Ikuyo(No, I'm never calling it that, Funi). I actually watch a fair amount of ecchi. Which is probably the source of my contempt. Marathoning an ecchi show every month or two Funi releases a DvD is probably enough of a buffer for fans to continuously consume them. Watching five of them a season, every season, gets exhaustingly tidious when you realize how pandering and paint-by-numbers the whole genre actually is. I don't mind ecchi occasionally, but I do have the sense to realize it's not exactly wholesome entertainment.

Which is why it frustrates me, as a fan, to see the truly unique, intelligent and meaningful shows like Mawaru Penguindrum, Hourou Musuko, Level E, and Bakemonogatari wasting away in the forever unlicensed purgatory-zone because nobody flashes their tits or yells attack names.

Its extremely frustrating to feel basically ignored by the entire industry because my personal taste happens to clash with the rest of the fandom. Which makes it very difficult for me to remain in the fandom. When my only choices to watch/own the anime I want is to pirate it, pay insane import fees and work on my Japanese or wait months/years on end for someone to actually release it in the US, its difficult for me to justify giving money to the companies that seem to silently shun my sector of the fandom. I've resolved that if Manyuu Hikenchou is released in the US before Penguindrum(They aired in the same season), that I'll probably never give my money to a US licensor again, because it’s pretty clear they don't want it anyways.

TL;DR - I actually don't hate ecchi, but the genre and its fans are simply easy scapegoats for my personal frustrations over licensing habits and the general state of the fandom and the industry.

That came out a little longer and a lot more ranty than it probably should have, but whatever. Have at it.
