Being censored

Ok they really need to stop these hack jobs on these shows. Or atleast make a alt for subscribers where its uncensored. I don't like seeing black and white lines blocking half the screen or flying D's. Just leave the show as it was made it has a rating of tv-ma so why do you feel you need to do that?

Re: Being censored

You get the same version as everyone else, including the Japanese(unless they subscribe to AT-X). If you want tits, buy the Blu-rays. That's standard Japanese marketing at work.

Re: Being censored

your wrong because I already found other sites with this show uncensored, outta respect for funimation I won't advertise which sites they are. But they shouldnt feel the need to censore those shows with +18 ratings on them, if a kid ends up watching something they shouldnt be then it just means their parents should be paying more attention to em'.

Re: Being censored

Fan subs sites will have them yes but thoes are illeagl sites and don't help companies like funi tell them that the show is getting th eviews they are looking for.
I thinkg the littel flying D's they are using are funny and better than th eblack or white bars they normally use.

Re: Being censored

I agree that at least Elite Video Subscribers should have an uncensored version and uncensored simulcasts when possible.

They're paying for a membership just like those in Japan who subscribe for AT-X.

Both Japan and Funimation still make the bulk of their money from home video sales.

Not like it'll cost them a huge amount of sales if they stream an uncensored version. Those who like it will buy it.

Funimation has even gone on record that their survey results say majority of people who buy a DVD or Blu-ray watched the entire series first on TV or online.

And for dub fans they'd still buy the DVD/Blu-ray. If they order from rightstuf they can watch/listen to it 2 weeks before it's even put up for EVS members since rightstuf always ships early (if you pre-order months in advance).

Yea, I already decided I am buying this after I watched episode 3. Only thing that might change my mind is if the last episode sucks really bad.

At first glance, I admit I figured you were just as perverted as Issei but I do agree that the screen being blocked is annoying. If you care about it that much though, just watch it on one of those other sites you found.

First, love this show!

Second, it is being broadcast, censored, on TV Kanagawa, Chiba TV, TV Aichi, Sun Television, Tokyo MX, and BS11. Only on AT-X is it uncensored.

However, you might be reading the OP wrong. He has a valid point. It is available uncensored on priate/fansub sites. It's one thing if it's only available censored in Japan, but if it's available in an uncensored form in Japan, guess what happens?

Yep, it pops up in uncensored forms on fansub and pirate sites. Which isn't good for FUNi and the copyrights holders. Here FUNi's trying to get paid subscribers, and it's having to compete with pirated versions from Japan that are uncensored because, again, the Japanese have a totally F-ed up business model.

I'm pretty sure that FUNi would love to broadcast the uncensored version, since it's available (if they didn't they'd have gone out of business a long time ago), since they want to have the best selling points possible to increase the subscription base.

Seriously, I would love to know the reasoning that they were unable to get the streaming rights to the uncensored version. TNK want too much money? TNK not offer it due to fears of reverse importation? Fears that people in Japan would watch FUNi's or NicoNico's stream?

So, as a result, we have TNK making it harder for legitimate streamers to get subscribers...whcih would get FUNi more money, which would increase the bargaining power of NHK, "We've seen your subscriber numbers, you can fork over some more money."

Result: Once again the Japanese are killing the golden goose. It is hysterical to think back to the 1980s when everyone thought the Japanese knew everything there was to know about business, and people were worried they'd economically drive us into the ground. Ha.

Re: Being censored

Maybe the problem is TNK already made an exclusive deal with AT-X to show the uncensored version? Exclusive contracts are NEVER a good idea if you ask me but they do happen and if the agreement was broad and implied AT-X was getting all rights to broadcast the uncensored, including foreign rights, then it might explain this whole situation. (Not that we'll be told one way or the other because that's internal business most people don't want the world to know about.)

Other possibilities are advertisers, ISP issues or concerns about laws that probably don't actually apply but if someone were to make an accusation it would cost a fortune to show it was BS. (You'd be stunned just how much freedom is suppressed by just the spectre of a lawsuit! If law school is teaching me anythin it's that most people are blissfully unaware of what the law REALLY says.)

I think fans should just try to stick to the legal streams though. If fans aren't willing to give legal streaming their support, it will take a long time to achieve any real strength. In the mean time, anime is becoming an increasingly weak industry. It doesn't look as weak as it really is because of various factors but with censorship on the rise in Japan and the industry over there increasingly reliant on pre-existing franchises (manga, light novels, games), things are going to start getting problematic in a few years.

The global economic crisis is causing people to re-evaluate their priorities and anime related merch costs a small fortune in Japan. Why do you think the anime coming out are so heavily geared toward otaku and not the Japanese mainstream? It's because the obsessed otaku are the main consumers. As they age or run out of money, things are going to get bad. It's coming, mark my words.

The best way to guard against any decline is expansion of consumer base and revune sources. Supporting legal streaming is crucial for the times to come.
