Roughly a year ago, a Bluray box set consisting of Hellsing Ultimate I-V was released in Japan.
As some of you may know, animation was originally handled by Satelight, but it changed hands to MADhouse starting with OVA V. This box set introduced an interesting change: OVAs I-IV were completely remade with new artwork and lighting changes, as well as some palette darkening and softening so the episodes look more like the style of OVA V onwards.
My question is: will FUNimation be releasing a dubbed version of this set? The difference between the original OVA and the retouched version is striking, and I think it looks a lot better for setting the tone of the series, especially when it comes to OVA I, which just looked far too bright for a Hellsing production.
It seems like the reworked version is the "true" release, and while I love my collection of Limited Editions for OVA I-IV as it is, I would love to see the new version on my shelf even more.

I'm sure they will create an HD release with all the new drawings.
I'm gonna hold out until all 10 episodes, including "The Dawn", are bundled and have Japanese and English audio.
My entertainment center has been waiting for Episode 8 on Blu Ray for waaaay too long.

I agree, its been way too long. Looks like we dont have too much longer to wait though. Just 9 days left till release. Hopefully it doesn't get pushed back this time (crosses fingers). Also I do like the retouched version better as well. I have a couple Limited Editions myself o I know what Tiger is saying. I am hoping to score a Limited copy of OVA 8, supposedly the first 100k copies will contain some bonus material. Guess we have to wait and see...

I agree. But instead of doing a redub for those episodes, Funimation should transfer the dub that was already made for the original Statelight versions into the versions with the reworked visuals. Make it happen, Funimation! I demand it!

hah, believe it or not, I think Hellsing has more fangirls than fanboys, myself included (23 year old female).
btw, it's available for pre-order from right stuf, I'm really glad we are getting the re-mastered versions.
