I emailed Funimation and asked if a Blu-Ray release would happen at a later date. They replied that at this time it looks like it will be released on DVD only.

If Japan is so worried about reverse importation because of this title, along with other animes I am sure, what will happen to all future Blu-ray releases?

I think they are just throwing a fit with Heaven's Lost Property itself. As I've seen with Madoka, it's possible for them to restrict where the item can be shipped.

From RightStuf!:
"Due to licensing restrictions, this product cannot be shipped to Japan."

It doesn't stop people from buying it from some random person, but I highly doubt it's the majority of people who would go through the hassle for this. It's kind of lame if a second season doesn't even come out on the same formats of the first season, especially when it's being "downgraded". It'll be almost as lame as K-ON!, which misses every single extras the original releases.. it doesn't even have textless openings and endings, which seems to be a pretty standard extra to have nowadays.

Oh well.. if it never comes out on Blu-ray we won't really have a choice but to buy the DVD, I know I will, with a bit of a disappointment, but I'll still get it.

Has it occurred to anyone that a drop in pre-orders might not be a good idea?

It occurred to me. It was initially solicited as a BD/DVD combo pack, I pre-ordered that product because I wanted the BD most of all (it was given high priority even) and only the BD and the removal of the BD means that I no longer want the product since it no longer has what, I, as a consumer, want primarily. I'm completely within my right to cancel an inferior product.

And should it get no BD release, I'll just wait for a ultra-cheap re-release later down the line.If it prevents future seasons, so be it. Funimation should have fought harder to keep the BD crowd. I don't even care to pre-order Funi titles anymore. They've lost my trust once again.

( Emphasis is mine. )

Yes, this product is not what was originally advertised. At it's most fundamental level anyone that cancels a Pre-Order for that reason is perfectly right to do so.

I have a feeling that Funimation is keeping a close eye on the canceled Pre-Orders and will likely reduce the product run to compensate, as much as possible. Then they will politely bring up the subject with the Japanese producer's licensing people, backing it up with cold hard numbers.

By merging the US and Japanese markets for Blu-ray disks, both are having to change, in ways that appear to make long standing business models no longer viable. The change impacts both countries markets, it appears that entertainment producers in Japan fear that the brunt will fall on them.

Re: Waaah what is this? No Blu-ray for Season 2!?

I would almost bet that the reason Funimation delayed the BD Combo release is because of this issue. Countries like Japan rely heavily on verbal contracts (you can imagine what that can lead to crossing cultures and language), and that once the contract is agreed upon verbally, the written part of the contract is simply a formality for records when doing business with the United States. Without going into the dry details of these type of express contracts, I'm willing to bet that there was some miss-communication between the right holders in Japan and Funimation. Im sure production is complete on the discs and they are simply waiting for those who own the rights in Japan to give them (funi) the okay. With the impending movie, hopefully showing up soon, you can bet they want to double and triple check their rights to this source material before announcing the formats. Hopefully this mess gets cleaned up soon. Cant wait to hear how Astrea's voice turned out smile .

Re: Waaah what is this? No Blu-ray for Season 2!?

I apologize for not saying something on this thread earlier and thank Richard J. for bringing it to my attention.

The official word is what was posted earlier:

Quote:
In order to bring “Heaven’s Lost Property: Forte” to our fans as quickly as possible, the March 20, 2012 release will contain a 2 disc DVD set.

The packaging will also include a 4 color filler box with limited edition art cards exclusive to this set. We apologize for any confusion.

It is completely understandable if you cancel your pre-order because the March 20 release is DVD-only. Please don't buy something that you don't want.

For those of you that mentioned Strike Witches 2, here is the official word on that:

Quote:
Due to scheduling conflicts, we have postponed the release of Strike Witches 2 to a later date this year. We will announce a the new release date once it has been determined.

Sophie, are you able to state any news on the status of the Blu-ray for Forte? The community would greatly appreciate further news on the matter. Thanks.

Same here. My biggest concern isn't that it's been delayed, but rather if it actually will be released on Blu-Ray since according to an earlier post, it won't. Still, it's nice to finally have someone respond to this matter.

(My bad, I tried to fix the "double quote" but it just doesn't work for some reason.)

I hear you FetusZero, but I highly doubt Funimation wont eventually do a Bluray release. Not getting the cards is a bummer, but hey I'd rather have a HD version of an awesome anime over spending $10 more on Amazon for 2 discs less, that isn't glorious 1080p with uncompressed audio. My biggest concern is that it will take as long for Funi to release a Bluray version, as their Sekirei season 1 combopack. Especially if The movie is released before Bluray is. Sales for the movie might suffer if people want to wait and watch things in order.

Considering what the Japanese do for Forte, I highly doubt we'll get the HD version of the movie before Forte on Blu-ray lol. But its DVD release will likely suffer because of it, as you said.

Man after watching the first season, which was a completely random purchase, I was so excited for the second one hmm
Now I see myself more excited at the release of Yumekui Merry, simply because I know I'll have it on Blu-ray on the first day.

I know! They should acquire and re-release Cardcaptor Sakura as a compensation bonus, that would bring back a lot of old memories tongue (hey, I can dream, can I?).
