Besides possibly the first episode of season 1 which instantly got me hooked and defined Henrietta as a badass, I would probably say my favorite episode is Flowers of Good Will. Triela's backstory and how Hillshire became her handler was just put together so well and the episode was really sad and touching. I just think the episode was all around very well done.

Episode 5, "Promessa", is the best individual episode. It adds wonderfully tragic depth to Claes and gives Raballo a full and immaculately-developed character arc, and the climax is one of the most heartwrenching moments in the series. Also, I just really like Raballo, as he's the only adult character who is unable to deal on a moral level with what the Social Welfare Agency is doing, and reacts in the way most viewers would. His fate teaches us what happens to people with ordinary human compassion in the SWA.
This is going to sound odd but my favorite episode was "Lycoris Radiata Herb" Episode Nine. It's just so powerful and gives this clear and heartwrenching counter-point to Henrietta and Jose's fratello pairing. Also, in the manga Elsa was never even shown alive, meaning this episode takes a character who basically never had her story told and tells it in a way that fits perfectly into the series, made me at least weep for her and makes it frighteningly clear just how lucky most of the girls are to have handlers who actually CARE about them while at same time explaining how dangerous that really is! That episode just blows me away in terms of story-telling and acting.
