I am not trying to troll or anything, but I am really not sure if this show is trying to be parody with moments of seriousness, or the writers of code geass R2 are at it again?

Is this show supposed to be taken seriously?

I think it is meant to be serious. I know what you're talking about, though. It's got a lot of cliches, but they're done well. R2 was definitely not as good as season one, but it was still awesome and this anime has it's moments.
Shows like this are getting more and more common, maybe that's the reason why it's hard to take it seriously sometimes.
Anime that needs to be licensed:
Aria: The Scarlet Ammo Beelzebub Familiar of Zero Future Diary Haganai (Acquired!)
And of course Case Closed needs to be saved. In addition, more Fairy Tail!
This is worse then R2 and R2 was HORRIBLE and me drop it 4 times. due to all the horrible logic, or lack of explanation of what should be key points and them being completely unnecessary side points among other points that where PAINFUL. SEVERE INCONSISTENCY on what kills a person. bringing back up characters and side plots with little to no explanation. and then the only good part, the ending is being thrown out.
The show would be far better off as a parody I think. there has yet to be a decent code geass parody; (and no sacred seven was not at all good)
Tantei's FTW
This anime does have its share of clichés (the whole high school kids spending their off time saving the world and such) but I don't think that they're done too horribly in Guilty Crown. There's a decent amount of character development and while this show doesn't bring anything terribly new or innovative to the table it's still pretty solid.

I've watched GC in the mindset that it's like a Hollywood summer blockbuster film. It's eyecandy and it attempts to throw some interesting ideas at the viewer, but it also has a fair share of stupidity and facepalm-worthy moments. The one thing that separates Guilty Crown from being as enjoyable as one of those films however, are that Shu and Inori are extremely flat protagonists when they really shouldn't be. :c
Guilty Crown seems downright confused on what it wants to be between the boring main characters, the cartoonish GHQ, and the serious yet quirky Funeral Parlor. So I guess Guilty Crown is what you make of it. I'm sticking with not taking anything seriously, if I was, I'd have dropped it episodes ago.
I digress on this show pulling off cliches well. If they gave Inori an actual personality and will of her own despite looking like an emotionless doormat on the outside, that would be a cliché done well. If it turned out that GHQ weren't such generically evil antagonists and actually believed that they were in the right, I'm thinking Dan Eagleman but less comical, that would be a cliché done well. Unless by clichés done well, you mean the show does a good job of playing them straight.
well seeing that Guilty crown is a good show to me but to many it may not be taken serious but in other terms how many shows should be taken serious so i think it's what you think is serious or not.
Hey frodo don't think you can get away that easy with that damn ring.
Taken serious? Its a pretty calamatous plot with with a main character who is having his world turned upside down. It is pretty emotional even.

Waste of a thread IMO.
If you don't like the show, don't watch it.
there are plenty of people who love yugioh but don't take it seriously
Tantei's FTW
I only played the card game and barely watched the show, I probably watch two seasons out of all of the yugioh series. but yeah, i agree with minato Sahashi

I have just as much right to watch this show and facepalm at beach episodes as anybody else.
Don't forget. Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you.
