Last I'd heard, via CNN and HLN, it isn't just PSN that was hacked, but Sony in general (and they mentioned something about Steam accounts possibly, but I have no real clue what that is.)
On another note, I just bought The Orange Box, as I've never played Half-Life OR Portal (so now I can play them, not interested in Team Fortress 2 though... ).
Is it necessary to have played Portal to understand Portal 2? I know that GLaDoS (or however it's accentuated) mentions your character from the first game in 2, but I didn't think you were the same character.

No, it really doesn't affect the story all that much, but I advise you beat Portal 1 first, makes the 2nd one make more sense.

If you enjoyed half-Life 2, play the classic Half-Life 1. Ahhh good times with that game..... was my 1st FPS game.

CNN cannot be trusted with news related to video games, like a few years back when the joke of a journalist Anderson Cooper talked about how video games make kids violent. There have been no official reports of Steam being hacked. As far as Sony being hacked that is half true. Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) which handles Free Realms and DC Universe Online, as well as other, was hacked as well. While this may mean that Sony in general was hacked it is not definitive that Sony was. It is more likely that Sony uses the same server for PSN and SOE, especially since they have SOE games on the PSN now.
@Alc Fluteo
It's not needed to play Portal prior to Portal 2 but a couple of the jokes will make more sense and also it helps to play through Portal 2 since you'll already know mechanics of the game. Also you do actually play as the same character but really the way the game is designed it hardly matters.
I don't know why, but I haven't been enjoying Portal 2 as much as I thought I would. Maybe I just haven't been in the right state of mind while playing it, but I haven't found it to be all that funny or fun. Right now I'm in the early repulsion gel stages, and the bleak landscape is just depressing. The military guy in the voice recordings adds a little levity, but he'd have to be talking almost constantly to make up for the barren surroundings.

That's a shame but I suppose it's to each his own. Though a lot of the landscape is really suppose to be an example of the worn out areas of the labs but I understand what you mean. Hope you find something to make the experience more enjoyable
ah np I was just concerned I hadn't heard some new development or something phew

Yes I'll admit, I cry at the end of good animes.

Beat this recently. I have to say, it was very fun.
Had some great lines as well as great puzzles.
Valve titles do tend to be very fun and entertaining. This was no exception.
