Let's all discuss MMORPGs, and what you like about them and what you hate about them. Also you can list what MMOs you're currently playing.
For me, one thing I love about MMOs is the convenience of game play. I just love the fact that MMOs are there at any time to give you enjoyment for a long time.
One thing I don't like about MMOs is the player base (of a particular game) can be a bit set-in-their-ways, and not willing to accept change. I feel that change could be a benefit to a game.
Currently, there are four MMOs that I am currently playing, Star Trek Online, DC Universe Online, Aion Online, and then Soul of the Ultimate Nation (these four are my personal favorites with STO and DCUO being tops).
There are a couple more MMOs that I am excited to start playing (whenever they get released or even start Beta testing), and they are Marvel Heroes (something similar to DCUO), and Otherland.
In case you were wondering, all the games that I have listed are Free-to-play, so if you don't have the money to play a game that is either Subscription based or buy-to-play, these games are, in my opinion, excellent alternatives to the Sub-based or buy-to-play games out there.

I currently playing Beta for The Secret World, and thats about it. it's still pretty rough, but its a fun game and definitely unique.
Don't forget. Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you.
As long as you remember Her, you are not alone.
I have/had Elsword MMORPG. I still have the install data, but I uninstalled it recently because I finally was able to get Homefront. Since, I have only a Wii, and its not on that, I got it for PC.

I don't play many because I absolutely hate downloading stuff (I've had very bad luck with viruses, so I'm paranoid with downloads), so downloading and file size are what I hate about them. But I love that (the ones I've played) are free, because I'm also really cheap. The only one I'm currently playing is DC Universe Online because my friend forced me to and it turned out to be a lot of fun (even though I know/knew almost nothing about DC).
Curious, as one of the things I'd have said I don't like about MMOs is that you can't always play them. Be it due to server maintenance, login issues, internet problems or what have you. But I think I do sort of understand what you're getting at with them being constantly ongoing, so in a way they are always on.
I guess I'm currently playing World of Warcraft, though I've not logged on in quite some time. Doubt I'll renew my subscription when its up. Other than that I'm considering giving Star Wars: The Old Republic a try, and I'm also very much looking forward to Guild Wars 2. And I didn't realize Aion Online had become free-to-play. Think I'll have to try that one out as well.

It's under NCSoft's "Truly Free" business model, which is the same model they have for City of Heroes and for Lineage II.

I play SWTOR, and just got Tera.
Was doing WoW like half of the population for awhile, and then stumbled upon Tera and that was such a awesome surprise for me - the combat system has me hooked. I haven't logged on in awhile though, I was weened on first person shooters so as soon as I got my paws on Planetside 2 I've forgotten just about every other game.
If I had to pick my favorite thing about MMO's is probably the community aspect. Yes, while there are very strong communities centered around other non-mmo games I've always had better luck at finding half way decent people to talk and play with in a MMO community. The downside - subscriptions. For those that subscription based.
I enjoy playing MMOs, especially that satisfaction of success you get when working with random people towards a common goal whether its gaining a level for everyone or simply completing a quest.
Started out with PSO then moved on to FFXI and eventually ended up with Mabinogi. There were a few others, but Mabi was probably a very close second to FFXI.
The only downside to me about playing MMOs is I can't play in the US region when I go back overseas... TT_TT
I play Elsword, but I play Eden Eternal more lately...
