So far, though, what's everyone's favorite FF game? Although I love 8 and 9 to bits, my absolute favorite FF game is actually 6. This may be because it was the first FF game I owned (Gameboy Advance), but to me, it just had one of the better stories and magic systems. Plus, I get to have a moogle in my party.
My absolute favorite FF is 6, it has the best story, characters, and music of the series. It and 5 are still slated to have their re-releases, but the DS couldn't handle all the information, Nomura has stated they'll probably get 3DS releases now (I'm hoping they'll also get HD PSP releases like 1, 2, and 4 Complete Collection).
I also like:
7
8 (though it's the ONLY FF where you do NOT want to level up your characters at all, as the higher level you are, the harder the game becomes, and at LV 99 Ultimecia is nigh impossible)
9 (Nomura stated it's his favorite and the epitome of FF, it's a throwback done RIGHT)
10 (WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE TIDUS?! )
10-2 (Yes, it's actually GOOD, though the Good ending if FAR better than the True ending, the Bad ending is just sad )
13 (I'm playing through this now, and I LOVE Snow...but I hate Lightning. She's a blatant copy of Cloud [go look up composites of the two put over each other, it's creepy how much it all matches up] and her "arc" of character development is a smile at the end of the game, WHAT THE flowersING HELL??!!)
I like 12, but it's just sad the full game was never realized. Nomura and Sakaguchi stated that 90% of the story was cut from the game...now image if that 90% was put back in? It has the potential to be one of the better FF games.
I dunno. I can't justify the purchase of a 3DS right now. I'd much rather they just put a download of 5 and 6 on the PSN and let me grab it off of there for my PSP. I spend more time gaming on that than on my DS right now (curse you, FF4 and Dissidia!). Heck, even a PSP remake like they did for 1, 2, and 4 would be acceptable.
I am trying to play 12, but the 3-dness of it kinda makes me queasy after a while. I had that problem with .hack for a while, though, but gradually got over it. Still, when my wireless controller's battery starts going out and the screen starts spinning, things get really bad really quickly.

One of the reasons why I stopped playing my copy of the game. I also hated the system cause the only way to get gold was through jobs and that chart system where you had to unlock a weapon/armor/etc.. before you could equip it.
My favorite is also FF6 although I never made it past the floating continent its had a good storyline up to that point. I also liked FF IV, V, VII, and IX.
FF II is the hardest game in the franchise to date if you go to the first town/field you die in a matter of seconds. Dx
Haven't really played much of the newer ones. [Though I hope to eventually.]
I've really only played I [the remake of it on the GBA anyway], IV, and VI.
Out of those three, I'd say IV is my favorite. I really like the story and the characters. [This goes for both the original game and its sequel, 'The After Years.']
I am really not a fan of the action rpgs that the Final Fantasy games have become, i liked the old turn based strategy that had a great story.
I'm in that same boat. I really love the franchise, but the last couple have turned me off with what I thought was a bigger focus on the fight mechanics, trying to make the franchise more action-oriented, and less on the characters and story.
I got hooked on the franchise with the original back on the NES. I've really liked most of the games in the franchise (though I have a special hatred for FF X-2 (Final Fantasy: Spice Girls Edition) and didn't care for the FF VII add-on games, the XII games, or XIII.
As far as my favorite Final Fantasy game, it is always going to be Final Fantasy VI. It's the one I believe had the best characters, one of my favorite storylines, and definitely the best villain of the franchise with Kefka.
I'm also a big, big fan of Final Fantasy Tactics. I liked the return of the job system (with more customizable options), the strategy element of the combat system (I like the Vandal Hearts, Vanguard Bandits, and Tactics Ogre style games), and I believe the storyline is one of the best of the franchise.
Tactics gives me too many options! I don't know which jobs to pick and then I feel all @_@, but I'm really more of a "get right up in its face and slash, slash, slash until it keels over dead" kind of person, so that's not really a tactic. Works, though....

Well, Japan JUST got Playstation version ports of FFV and FFVI on the PSP. There's been no real word on if/when the US is getting it. And with the PSN down, that could be a while.
WiiWare also just got a port of FFVI in Japan as well, US is listed to get this version, but it's not quite sure when.

Sorry, I'm no RPG guy. I used to be with .hack// , but meh... Not into it anymore. The only RPG I play is "Costume Quest". Whatevs.

In my experience the people who hate RPGs are the people who can't appreciate a good story and want mindless action.
Anyway, I'm gonna get back into FF12 and finish it. I was loving it heaps but I stopped for a while when I moved all the stuff in my room around.

Ugh, DS releases.
Why don't Square Enix give the games a full revamp? Give it new voice acting, graphics, the works, and put it in a PS3 Box set.
@Alc: Evidently we're both fans, yet I disagree with almost everything you said.
