It's not like the Wii was completely devoid of good games either. There were quality titles in its library. [And heck, gimmick isn't even a negative word.]
Well, anyway, I have to admit that the news about the new console came completely out of left field and I'm wondering exactly what they're planning.
But I'd be a big liar if I said I wasn't excited just based on current reports.
What Im saying is just look at how longs its beeen since Twilight Princess on the Wii to Skyward Sword. Waiting for the next popular franchise that people in the west clamor over, say Zelda, it wont be making it to the next console until at least 3 years from 2012. Unless the rumor of Legend of Paper Zelda is true, but the last time they innovated Zelda it split the fanbase with some liking Wind Waker and others disliking it.
I thought you were posting in relation to games on the next console. Skyward Sword is still a Wii game...

I want quality games (that I care about) on the console other than Zelda and Mario. Zelda and Mario games are great, but they are single player adventure games and don't have that lasting value.
Even with what has been rumored about the online capabilities of Nintendo's new console are true, and boy do I hope they are, Nintendo still has to do something big in order to win over the fans again. The 3DS is an indication that fans will not just buy a Nintendo console because of their name being on the box anymore.
Personally I feel that Nintendo has to do something big to win fans, and me, over for their console to succeed. They either need to have an all new Nintendo franchise come from Miyamoto or they need to get a big exclusive third-party game on their console that will drive sales, such as Modern Warfare 4 (example only). If they did that it would be a guaranteed success, especially if they released that exclusive title on console launch day.
Honestly, there isn't really nothing that hasn't been confirmed at the moment that I would want from a video game developer. So I have a open mind this year, last year for me though was the 3DS. I was just so hyped to see how the system worked.
The Project Cafe just seems like Nintendo's attempt to hurry this console generation up because they know the Wii didn't have the same amount of power as the PS3 and 360 .
Some of you seem to be writing off Nintendo just because of the 3DS or the Wii, they had great success with the Wii and brought the most prolific games to the table, essentially entries in all of their franchises except for F-Zero and Star Fox...the 3DS, come on, people will buy it just because it is Nintendo, wait until Mario and Pokemon hit it...
Their games will be more quality...if you dont mind waiting 4 years for the next Zelda...

Um... Skyward Sword is coming out soon.
I think that Zelda is one of Nintendo's more consistent series, so I'm sure that Skyward Sword will be good.
