Re: Is Ga Rei Zero a good anime to buy?

I just finished this one myself and I have to say, I thought it was very good. The plot moves at a solid pace, the characters are cool, the fights are excellent but what really serves as the backbone is the relationship between Yomi and Kagura and their reasons for fighting. The character drama is just outstanding.

My only complaint is that the series needs an anime continuance adapting the manga with the darker tone of the this series. I'd love to see that.

Why are anime series so dang short? (Yes, I know there are really long runners but most of them just aren't as good to me as many of the shorter series.)

They are intentionally putting the combos in DVD packaging so that the stores can put them together in the anime section of shelving rather than them being lost among the BDs (something along those lines anyway).
Considering how many stores are cutting their anime sections down to nothing and expanding their Blu-Ray sections, I don't think that's a good strategy. In fact, I think that is a very bad strategy.

Especially as when I do shot in Brick and Mortar stores (rarely since they usually got nothing I want to buy) the only anime I ever see moving is Blu-Ray format or movies like Summer Wars. Plus any not-fully-informed fan who goes looking for the Blu-Ray/DVD combo of a series might not realize that it won't be shelved with the Blus and people who just go to impulse buy Blus won't ever have the chance of getting the combo.

I really think it's a bad strategy. Normally I think Funimation more or less knows what they are doing but this isn't a good game plan in my opinion.

I have 3 episodes left on this show and so far I'm loving it! I really enjoy these types of shows. Reminds me of Corpse Princess and somewhat of Claymore which I love even more. heart

I think the manga is published in English now, and apparently you can read them all free online. After I read a few volumes, I have to say this prequel animation is better in terms of storyline. Its director did a great job in bringing all these dramatic emotions as well as the origin of the story together in such a short series. It's just amazing! And I love the songs and music too!

Do any of you know if there is an official website for Ga-Rei Zero? Coz Funimation is licensed for its English publication instead of the original animation production. (By the way, thanks Funimation for all the translations for us!) We should leave a message in the official website to express our eagerness for a second season!
