@Noi: Lol I see, and yeah didn't mean to imply you were cheap or fickle or anything, just using my typical pricing rant. Also torrents you say, naughty naughty Noi, i'll have to send the animu police after you now.
Also while I can't say it's happened or not in the past, it seems understandable that Funi will debut animes at a lower price months before release to reward early pre-orders and then raise the price near launch, sort of like the pre-order ticket sales for shows will be less then the door price.
^ Pretty much, BUT that is the retailer's doing, not FUNi's.
FUNi's MSRP has not changed, only the discount the retailer is providing.
Yah, I guess. I mentioned earlier I was overseas, so I only checked sites like rightstuf once a month and only bought what was in stock. I decided to stop buying overseas, after my baka and test le came in horrible condition (both from delivery and gohastings) and I couldn't return it basically. Even here, 25% of what I order comes in a broken case and 50% come with either a used condition appearance.
The last real few price increases were when things were added to the package to make the overall value seem better to fans.
Last increase: Addition of BD/DVD Combo to the LE box - Increase of $5 MSRP
Prior Increase: Addition of Chipboard collectors box and possible pack in goodie - Increase of $5 MSRP.
The "standard edition" repackages are tend to be $5 cheaper than the limited editions as seen by the most recent Cat Planet Cuties slipcover rerelease. Of course most FUNimation releases tend to be a good deal because of retailer discounts/sales and re-releases.
Well, I don't believe that is the case. I ordered most of the stuff , that's 25%-33% for 40% way before the sale.
That's because they were in the Weekly Specials.
Right Stuf's everyday price is 25% off the retail price. However, many Funimation titles go into the weekly specials (especially preorders) and get 40% off (not eligible for additional discounts).
On 9/29-10/8, Right Stuf had a Funimation Studio Sale, which made everything from Funimation at 40% off (46% off with Got Anime membership). When that sale ended, everything went back to normal pricing and some titles went back into the Weekly Specials.
The prices seem incredibly similar to the way they have always been to me. Hate to say it though but you kind of get a better deal going through Amazon instead of Right stuff most of the time because lately I have been noticing I can get anime cheaper on Amazon and get free shipping ($25 or more). Not only is the shipping free but it doesn’t take several days to even process the order like it does on Right Stuf. With Right stuf you are paying for the lower price if it even is in shipping cost. Granted Right stuf does tend to have really good sales if you check in every now and then.
But I think the prices really haven’t changed. You have to realize that for newer releases of course they are going to be full price or something closer to it. The longer you wait the more the price will drop, hell a few months from now you could prob score Deadman Wonderland for a little over 30.
Yeah I know what the OP is talking about I was going to get Black Lagoon from RightStuf when it was $32 now it is $42 and I can't bring myself to buy it knowing there was a cheaper price the best we can hope is it goes back down.
Here's what happens with FUNi and Sentai titles, usually:
• When they are first posted up on the site, they are usually introduced at sale price. This is to encourage pre-orders of brand new products. Note however that you are not allowed to use coupons or your Got Anime? membership to lower the price further.
• Every few months or so, RightStuf will put all their FUNimation or Sentai titles on sale. This will lower the items back down to their pre-order price, only THIS time they'll allow you to use your membership and stack your discounts to get the lowest possible price. This here is the absolute BEST time to buy.
• Even when they're not having a sale, RightStuf will occasionally hand select a few titles for their weekly specials which happen every Thursday. This too will lower it back down to the 40% discount, but again, you usually can't use your membership or coupons.
Any other time than the above listed, and the discount is usually 33% just as always. So the trick is to wait for the right time to shop.

The Got Anime still works in effect, I do believe. I've bought items from RightStuf during sales and still got the discount. Because if you look in the details of the sales, it'll says "Save 40% off retail, but with the Got Anime, you get 46% off retail"

Yes, but not when the item in question is first announced. Take a look, for instance, and the newly announced Blood-C and Toriko releases. Those are already marked down to their 40% price, but if you look carefully on the right, you'll also noticed that they are currently not eligible for coupon or membership discounts.
The exception occurs when the item is announced DURING a sale, such as was the case with the Panty & Stocking bluray set a few weeks ago. With the combined discount of the FUNi sale and my Got Anime? membership, I was able to pre-order that brand new for only $37 bucks.
