I saw the movie Robot Carnival last night for the first time. It was absolutely stunning! Ultra-fluid animation - all hand drawn - and incredibly artistic themes captivated me from the first minute I watched to the last. And this was all on a terrible old VHS released by Streamline pictures WAY back in the day. Robot Carnival reminded me of another incredible animation I saw when I went to Anime Weekend Atlanta one year: Neo Tokyo. Both are true masterpieces, and the current generation of anime fans DESERVE to see the awesomeness that came before the current era.
As for price if you want to try and buy these now?
I saw a Robot Carnival DVD - a bootleg copy, no less - going for $32.69 on amazon.
I saw Neo Tokyo on DVD going for $35.06 used, and $49.99 new!
There is clearly a demand for these movies, and I think it is high time to allow a new generation to see them how Japanese theater patrons saw them in the late 80s and early 90s.
PLEASE license and release these movies on Blu-ray! Nobody has seen these amazing films as they were meant to be seen for over 2 decades! There is clearly a market for them if the high prices for used and bootleg copies alone, much more NEW copies, are anything to go by.
If any company can do it right, it's you guys!

Theres already a thread to recommend anime for Funimation to pick up in the anime section.
