Re: I wish Funimation would make up their minds....

I really find people like Jackson fascinating... I really want to get inside your head and figure out exactly what it is about Blu-ray Discs that they have such a distaste for. Would you mind bouncing the ball back and forth a bit? Is it the price of BD Players? The requirement of an HD tv? The load time to boot a disc up? What is it exactly that keeps you embracing DVDs?

I truly can't understand where you're coming from Jackson, what you've done is pay a person somewhere upwards of 50$ to take out the Blurays from your package. You're getting the same exact product, just less of it, for a huge markup and all for some weird crusade against a technological superior product. What is the reason for this? Do you doubt the superiority of the Bluray format? Do you hate the companies behind Bluray? (aka Sony et al. aka the same people who make the DVD).

You are correct, to keep the B&M stores happy is no longer the reason for the combo packs, they are for selling the product to both DVD and Bluray buyers at a lower cost and lower overhead.

Also no name brand companies make region free DVD players, since the DVD copyright holders won't license it you're just using a machine with unlicensed pirated technology (I know I have one, quality isn't their strong suit).

Lastly I understand the high price importers pay for products, their reasons I can understand, your quasi protest against combo packs I cannot.

Re: I wish Funimation would make up their minds....

All I can say is that I'm a BD enthusiast - I love the picture quality and sound - and yes, it is better on some movies and anime because some are merely upscaled. Either way, I prefer the BD.

With that said, everyone with the exception of only a few are releasing BD/DVD combo packs, my Thor, Captain America, Transformers 3, Beautiful Mind - Various anime etc. follow this format. Can't say I really care, just so long as that BD is there. I know they do this jsut because it's cheaper for them, and the overall prices are the same - except for 3DBD - average price is around $40.00/title, and I have absolutely no desire to get into this 3DBD - I find it to be a gimmick. HD on the other hand, or even some good upscaling, I'll take that.

As for the delayed BD release of certain titles - Heaven's Lost Property Forte(whioch I really want), for whatever the reason (good or bad)is that it can't come on BD yet does suck, I will say that, however, I can kick back and wait for that BD release to come, I'm in no hurry - just as long as it is confirmed that Funimation will release on BD eventually, that's all that matters to me.

Kind of a selfish way of saying that. It implies that they have to follow the needs of someone because it's inconvenient for the individual....when for the many who do have the format, it is a huge convenience to bundle both formats into the same box.

I don't know when convenience turned into hindrance....but yeah, I am with the companies who thought combos were the excellent idea they are.

Or we can also assume that Sentai paid lots and lots of money (maybe overpaid) to Kadokawa for BD rights.

We can also assume this for Sentai's Aniplex BDs since none of them have locked subs like all of FUNi's do.

If it actually turns out that Funimation just didn't want to pay more money for BD's then that absolutely disgusts me. Hopefully its not the case and they can work something out.

My assessment is that Jackson's issue isn't with combo packs, necessarily, but rather I suspect it's FUNimation that is the source of the chip on his shoulder, as he's accused them of disreputable behaviour in other respects. Voice actors, for example. Basically anything FUNimation does that he doesn't agree with he takes as a personal offence.

Why would someone take personal offense to anything a company does?! That makes no sense! Hopefully it's just a conjecture on your part and it isn't the case; otherwise, I'd be afraid to do business with a guy like him.

I wouldn't put it past them if it was the case. I personally wouldn't want to pay more than what I have to for BD rights, especially in this economy. But either way, we just have to wait in see.

...me personally...I watch DVDs on laptop for the most part...and BD on PS3 and flatscreen...and while I usually try to buy combo packs of new releases I also buy MANY DVDs from Japan and Europe because my two of my laptops ignore region coding...and there are a world of titles we never see in this country...although PS3 (and BD Players in general) can play DVDs...my bitch that started the thread is (call me weird...BUT)...I like consistency in my collections...but that's just me...
