As I have recently gotten a Roku box, I have been using Hulu plus. I was wondering if there is a difference in simulcasting rights between Hulu (the free version) and Hulu plus. The reason I ask is because there are many series such as Sankarea, Jormungand, Lupin., Eureka Seven AO, and even catalog titles such as Lain that are on the normal Hulu but not Hulu plus. This just seems a bit backwards to me as usually when you pay a premium for an upgraded service you get more content, not less. So why is this?

I kinda want to know the answer to this myself.
Hulu Vs. Hulu Plus & Hulu Vs. Hulu Plus
From what I got, you get to view more stuff and in HD, as well. Hopefully this helps.

The main issue I know is that with Hulu plus you can watch episodes through a console or Rouku box hooked up to the tv, However not all shows can be shown though the hulu plus aps, and you still have to sit though a commercial. but I know on a computer you can see almost all the same episodes
It doesn't make sense to me either. You pay for a premium service, but get less. Only thing is, is that for Hulu, you get more subtitled stuff while Netflix you get more dubbed stuff. I dropped Netflix a while back and went to Hulu plus so I could watch it through the game console, but half the stuff I want to watch I can't because hulu plus doesn't have it. So it's back to the computer to watch anime again.
The Roku box is, from my point of view, a hit or miss when it comes to streaming content online. It all depends on what you seek and what's ACTUALLY available. It was the same problem with Netflix streaming on my Wii: only a handful of good movies and truckload of crap. I think you should stick with watching your favorite anime from a computer if you can't find it through Roku.
As someone who used hulu then upgraded to + the gains you get in watching anime is more content, faster simulcast episodes and the ability to watch via mobile devices(I/smart phone, IPad/tablet). Watching anime in HD is virtually if not completely non-existent, I imagine it's a licensing issue. I get more out of + than just anime so it's worth it to me but if you're only interest in the anime aspect you might not want to bother, it depends how you calculate the added worth in terms of 8 bucks a month.
Edit: From the best I can uncover talking to other Roku box users it appears to be an issue with what's licensed through what devices. Meaning, what is allowed for hulu + via their site and apps isn't necessarily a given to be allowed for Roku. Apparently many streaming licenses don't account for Roku so you get less through Roku than if you actually go straight to the website. Or that's what I'm being told.
