I believe that people that purchased a dvd/Blu-Ray copy of an anime should be allowed to make personal copies for personal use only. Examples would be to make a back-up copy to play in your car,or on a portable dvd player, or in case the origional gets scratched up, and has problems. Or If you want to rip it to your computer so you can have the episodes on your computer, or to watch episodes on your portable media device.
Isn't there such thing as fair use, which provides an exemption to copyrights restrictions, which would allow someone to use or make personal copies of copyrighted material (In this instance, Funimation licensed anime dvds and episodes) for non-profit, personal, or educational use?
I think that DRM should be removed from the DVDs.
Some people want to rip episodes to play on their devices, or to make a backup of their DVDs.
Please consider this suggestion. Thanks.

Just come up with a full proof way to prevent people from copying for nefarious reasons while allowing copies for legit personal use and I'm sure they'll implement it. Till then the heavy handed approach has to be used.
good luck ever getting that to happen.
I reject your reality and replace it with my own.
The DMCA trumps "fair use," unfortunately. I'm not sure there's much anime that's very educational anyway.
Doesn't much matter, the law - DMCA in this case - is spitting into the wind as the old saying goes.
All it can do is mess up some peoples lives. It lacks the ability to change people's habits. Go ask the temperance / prohibition people about how well trying to do that works, if you can find any.

And the "Fair Use" protection has absolutely nothing to do with such use of a work. Interestingly enough there is a good 3 part article on ANN right now about copyright and this is discussed in it. As the author talks about, Fair Use protection only applies “For purposes of criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship or research.”

I don't know what this mean? Is there no such thing as fair use?
Do the fair use laws not apply to DVDs?
What if you want to backup your DVD in case the origional gets scratched, or has trouble playing? Or what if you want to watch it on your portable device?
what do you mean a digital copy?
The digital copies from DVDs of major movie studios often have drm on them, and will only work on certain certified devices.
how come the fair use concept applies to some copyrighted material, but not to DVDs or Blu-ray?
what do you do If you want to watch the anime you bought from Funimation on your portable device?
Fair use still applies to the content on the disc, but the DMCA limits the ways you can access that content (through licensed DVD players or software).
