A tiny, humble request?

I have just one one tiny little request regarding future Hellsing releases:

Whenever you guys get around to releasing episodes 9 & 10, whether it's five months or five years away, please, PLEASE give The Dawn a little bit more love. It's inclusion in the second set was barely even announced (interviews with the cast got more of a heads up) - relocated to the smallest print on the cover there is. And, of course, it wasn't even dubbed.

I think...I think I pretty much speak for everyone who loves Hellsing when I ask that you guys show The Dawn some proper love. Include all 3 mini-sodes, rightly dubbed in the next set. Considering you guys went the extra mile to dub and release every FMA OVA and short there is, and considering that Hellsing's been a #1 anime best-seller on Amazon for over a month now, I think it's a reasonable request yeah?

I agree with this whole-heartedly.

While the rest of the Hellsing V-VIII boxset was superb, the way The Dawn was handled was simply criminal. It deserves to be dubbed and advertised for just as much as the full-length episodes do, and I simply see no reason (other than licensing issues with the Japanese) as to why it was just shuffled off into the corner like it was.

You guys have dubbed the OVAs for other shows like Princess Jellyfish and Freezing before. Why wouldn't you do the same for one of your best-selling franchises? hmm

Nothing can really be done. Funimation's policy is that they will dub everything for a video release unless their contract on the license says otherwise. If they didn't dubbed the Hellsing of the Dawn, then chances are that they couldn't because of the contract.

I'm just grateful that they were able to get the OVA. In many instances, these OVAs are left out of the US release because the contract doesn't include them.

No, but in the interview...no one at the Funimation studio knew about it How the hell do you not know about an OVA you paid money for? It didn't get a dub because the workers didn't know about it

Not everyone can know about every detail of a certain property.

Since the dub was outsourced to NewGen, FUNi probably felt the added cost of dubbing the OVAs for Hellsing would outweigh the profit gain by including them. It's much easier to dub extras when the rest of a project is already in house.

That just screams lazy - and a little bit unorganized. How could no one know about it? What the hell sort of organization is that - outsourcing or not.

That said, not all of the roles were outsourced to NewGen. Funi used their in-house studio for the large majority of extras. So....yeah. They SHOULD have known about it.

Re: A tiny, humble request?

Eh, no. Funimation KNOWS how popular Hellsing is in the US market. Them not putting forth the effort or money to get an OVA dubbed to a popular series that they knew would bring them money...it just shows how much they DON'T care about their customers.

I don't even like Hellsing, but when I read when hey first learned about the OVA was when the fans asked about it...it had me questioning about how they work. Well, why the hell didn't you know about it? Someone in that studio has to preview it and make sure the sub-tiles are right, the encoding is right, and all that crap. Were they letting a deaf person preview the dub?

Please post a link to the interview, or at least some follow up information about who was responding and their exact quotes.

@St0ck

Vata's referencing the ANNCast where Adam and Lance were on as guests (the newest FUNi one, titled "It's a Little Bit Funi, This Feeling Inside")

Adam and Lance admit that they didn't know what The Dawn was until it was brought up. However, just because they, 2 people in a large company, didn't know about it doesn't mean that others more involved with this particular title weren't aware of it. Like EyeofPain said, not everybody can know everything.
