Which series do you like better: Fullmetal Alchemist or Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood?
Well which? I vote for Brotherhood! I think it has better characters, better action, etc.
This thread's already been made in the MC forum.
Regardless, I love both FMA and FMAB, but the first series will always be my favorite, even if it's just by a tiny fraction.
I wish they added episode 4 into brotherhood. That was another great episode. It had a sad story to it.
Here's how it breaks down for me:
Original series --> has the superior sound track (we're talking BGMs, not opening/closing themes)
Brotherhood series -- > Has superior everything else.
Yeah Brotherhood wins in almost every category. But the original had some episodes that were great that wern't in Brotherhood. Like episode 4 and the Phantom Theif episode.
i like brotherhood wayyyyyy better, The first anime was just a big dissapointment
I actually like the first series more than Brotherhood, though I do prefer Brotherhood's animation. While the first one does follow the manga at some points, I thought it was pretty cool that they had the guts to deviate from the source material and make it into a philosophical debate, almost, on top of being a shonen anime. The fact that they got Hiromu Arakawa's permission to do so is also a huge bonus.
That doesn't mean that I don't like Brotherhood, but I actually would rather just read what happens in the manga than watch Brotherhood. I feel like the manga is paced better in the beginning - which makes sense, since Brotherhood wanted to get out of the way everything that viewers already knew from the first anime - but still. That first episode of Brotherhood is way too rushed, though it is great to see so many familiar characters all at once. (I stopped watching Brotherhood a few episodes into it. I disliked the pacing that much.) The first anime also is a lot more fun to write fan fiction for, especially when using characters from the movie. I adore Alfons Heiderech.
I think full metal alchemist brothehood is a lot better than the original.
I like both for different reasons. Some of my favorite characters from the original series had very prominent roles while in Brotherhood they're marginalized or disappear quickly (like Lust and Sheska). I also like how some of the characters from the original series have taken on expanded roles that allow them to develop more fully (like Barry and Hawkeye). I think the original series had better pacing and focused more on intrigue to move the plot forward whereas Brotherhood has more action. Overall, I'd say I prefer Brotherhood more but the original series will always have a place in my heart.

i think both series are great. of course it each had their own disapoitments.
) and doesnt changes. still brotherhood does keep ed in balance at his age and his growth level.
the first series gave minor characters big roles like sheska for e.g. it also had episodes brotherhood
and the manga didnt.still brotherhood skipped and changed a few parts from the manga
like episode 15. thats quite disapointiong cause it was SUPPOSE to follow the mangas storyline.
also like how in volumes somethings arnt in the series which sucks.they also quite rush
throughout the anime like red roses2 mentioned.thats why i perfer the manga over brotherhood sometimes. also whats amazing about the first series ed looks all bi-shounen (i think thats the term
still it was annoying how the characters changed from day to night looking like adults already. lol gomenasai about the long comment XD
I liked FMA Brotherhood more because it simply was the better series, characters were handled better, situations were more intense/exciting, the soundtrack better, the story better, the drama better and the battles too.
