So, I used to watch all of the Full metal Alchemist episodes all up to the movie. I just watched the first episode of brotherhood and I don't get it. Ed and al are right where they used to be before the movie none of this a makes any sense. On top of that, Hughes is alive again, and so is greed and all that. Is there any continuation after the movie or is it all stories from before the movie... can someone please explain this to me?

explain [the difference between original FMA and Brotherhood]

FMA Brotherhood is a REMAKE made to be closer to the manga. Not really much to explain.
also remember, GOOGLE , WIKIPEDIA, & ANN are your friend.

Thanks. I was just curious if there would be anymore story line after the movie. I heard that that was what brotherhood is.
Brotherhood as mentioned above is a remake of the original. When the original was being made the manga had not been completed. Once the anime caught up to the manga they decided not to wait and just went with their own story to finish off the anime and made a movie. Brotherhood goes along more with what happens in the manga, so no I guess there be any continuing after the movie as Brotherhood's story line goes in a different direction then the original anime. I hope that made some sense.
To note, the stories are same up to a point, then the paths diverge greatly. FMA: Brotherhood has a much darker storyline to it, with additional characters that weren't in the last series. I personally thought Brotherhood was way better than the other one. Good watch regardless.
There is no more storyline after the movie of the first series as mentioned. The chance of there being anymore is so much close to nil that you would have a better chance getting hit by lightning with the sun up and no rain clouds.

Well...maybe it is technically darker in content. But the original show had less of the wild comedy that was almost always present in the manga and Brotherhood. It also had a more cynical (and probably realistic) central theme--so I'd probably call it heavier.

Brotherhood is based on the manga and how the creator intended it to go through and end. When they cameout with the first one the manga wasnt finished yet so they made a diffrent plot and some diffrent characters.
Though they start out kinda the same it changes once you get into brotherhood.

Thanks for resurrecting an old topic to explain stuff that people already explained. +1 to awesome.
