Even if FUNimation didn't actually create the show, maybe they can pass along the word to the creators that, yes, a second season would be awesome The last episode totally left me wondering what will happen next
They did - see my post in the first page of this thread.

it would be cool if funi did make there own anime (or story to one and had one of the companies in japan make it for them)
They are - but not sequels, only films based on popular western properties.
I really want a Fruits Basket season 2 , it was an astounding anime and i fell in love with it . !! plus , if all these people love it and you come out with a season 2 , look at how much money you would get if it came out on DVD i love Fruits Basket , and it would really be amazing if you could make a season 2 PLEASEEE : D
- i would love to see a season 2 to fruits baskets...my little cousin got me into this anime show and i want to see more. I want to find out what happens later on with Tohru, Prince Yuki, and Kyo, what is going to happen between all three of them It is very interesting to find out what zodiac sign each Sohma has and what is going to happen with Tohru, if she is still going to be with the Sohma family and their secret. But I will never know since there is not a season 2 So I vote that there should be a season 2 because I am starting to love this show and I watched it non-stop for the very first time.
Blehh i think its cool that we r making a petition but i have just checked its in 33 thousand and something i just hope they make it! I hear its suppose to make it up to 100 thousand ppl but idk hope we can make once again. lol

You can find out about all that if you read the Manga version. There are slight differences where the Manga continues the story - Tohru's encounter with Kyo in the forest during the rainstorm has added scenes - but overall the story is consistent.
I read the whole thing - all 23 volumes!!!
Some of them are available as "Deluxe Editions" with two volumes per edition. However they only go up to Deluxe volume 6.(individual volumes 1-12). The publisher, Tokyopop, has gone belly up so that's probably the last of the Deluxe editions.
I bought the rest of the volumes individually.
I don't know about library availability. I didn't check before I bought them. I bought all of them "used" on Amazon (used is in quotes because some of the marketplace sellers actually had new copies). . Last time I looked, there were still many copies of both edition types, in conditions ranging from "New" to "Like New" to "Good". For price reasons I settled on "Like New" in most cases. They all turned out to be in "New" condition as far as I'm concerned.
Anyway, regardless of all those details, it was certainly worth buying for me. It's a marvelous story overall, and after the events covered in the Anime, the Manga just keeps getting better.
YES. iv just been watching the first season over and over and i really wish youd make season 2! i dont care that it was made in 2001! i just cant wait for a season 2. Please please make a season 2 and maybe more! thatd be sooo great. (:
Ugh, a season 2 of Fruba would make my LIFE! Is anyone else completely in love with this anime/manga? I love it. It ALWAYS cheers me up when I'm sad. I hopehopehope there will be a 2nd season someday.

Excellent quotation in your signature - it represents the entire series, both anime and manga. Thanks for posting it!!!
Now I wish Natsuki Takaya would let the "scary and sad" things she saw in that first season anime come to an end, and start "happy and fun things" again by going forward with a second season.
She had some sort of problem with the way the first season was produced. It so locked her into that sad situation that she didn't even take Tohru Honda's advice. She gave up. She's not pushing forward.
She also ignored the "Thousand Paper Crane" project, wherein FUNimation inspired attendees of Sakura Con to make 1000 origami paper cranes and send them to "Hakusensha (the manga publisher) or whomever is calling the shots on the other side of the pond" The folklore is that if you make 1000 origami cranes and make a wish, the wish will come true.
They made the cranes all right, and sent them to Japan. She didn't even acknowledge them.
It's a miserably sad end note to such an optimistic series. I wonder if she realizes how much Tohru's message is being undermined by her refusal to sanction a second season.
I said here (or in another forum somewhere) that after I heard all of this news, I started feeling that her little side notes in the Manga were completely phony. In those notes she seems to be expressing a lot of empathy with her fans, especially in those drawing contests.
But when it came to something they really wanted, the empathy wasn't there. It makes all those little fan messages seem like pandering to a target audience.
Unlike her, I'm not giving up. I still keep hoping that she'll take Tohru's advice for a change and sanction additional seasons of the anime (based on how complex the Manga gets, I don't think a single additional season will suffice).
Omg, if they made a season 2, I'd be SO happy!!!
