Are any FUNimation products edited or censored?

Usually no, FUNimation DVDs or Blu-rays are not censored. Any censorship present was part of the original Japanese release. If you have any questions about a FUNimation release, then please visit our support page. Under "Reason for contact", select "Shop & Products - Product Concerns".

Can I buy the TV edit version of any FUNimation shows that aired on TV?

Unfortunately, no. We usually only sell the uncut version of our shows.

Do FUNimation products use a rating system?

Yes, nearly every FUNimation show and movie is rated and follows the same system as movies and TV.

How does FUNimation provide ratings for its anime series? How does FUNimation edit its anime series?

We can tell you that you should be looking at two separate lines of questioning: anime on television/broadcast and anime on DVD and/or Blu-ray. There will be different editing/rating decisions made for each type of release.

For anime that is shown on TV, FUNimation works with broadcasters to determine the edits that are made for the anime. That is regulated by the government. You should be able to find some good research on TV ratings in the United States.

The anime Blu-rays and DVDs that are released in the U.S. are a different matter. FUNimation determines the ratings for each of the Blu-rays and DVDs we release. We work from general guidelines of the motion picture ratings system, but we self-regulate in order to make sure government regulation is not needed.

All FUNimation DVD and Blu-ray releases are uncut unless marked otherwise.

How do I tell if a FUNimation product is appropriate for my child?

Nearly every DVD and Blu-ray product in the FUNimation.com Shop has a rating. FUNimation follows the same rating system TV and movies do.

What is the "NR" rating?

If a movie or TV show is rated "NR", that means that it is "Not Rated". In order to get an idea of the content, please watch any trailers or clips available on FUNimation.com.

Why can't I turn the subtitles on while watching the English dub version nor turn the subtitles off while watching the Japanese version for some of your releases?

Per agreement with our licensors, we are required to apply a stationary English subtitled track when the Japanese audio is selected on certain titles. Due to programming specifications, this also affects the ability to enable subtitles when selecting the English audio. This is done on a case-by-case basis and does not affect all FUNimation releases.

Will you add subtitles in other languages, like French, to your products?

Due to contractual obligations, we can only provide English subtitles.

I purchased Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z/Dragon Ball GT and it didn't come with a booklet. Can you send me one?

In order to reduce our carbon footprint, the reprints of the Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT box sets no longer come with booklets, so we cannot mail any. However, we do have high resolution printable pdfs of each booklet online here. Due to contractual obligations, these booklets are only available to our customers that reside in the USA and Canada.
