Does anyone know if FUNimation plans to license/distribute the Fate/Stay Night movie? As I've already and redundantly said, I prefer this storyline, and the movie is well-done, powerful, and drop-dead gorgeous. I've heard no word on any potential licensing, but I'm hoping the movie and the Fate/Zero series can see a State-side release.

There hasn't been any news on this so there's really nothing one can do at this point. You'll have to be patient with Funimation and wait and see if they'll get the license for the movie.

I figured as much. There's no rush (for me, anyway). I bought the Blu-Ray from Japan, so it's fun times. Still, being able to read what they're saying as they're saying it would be nice.
The likelihood that FUNimation would be able to license Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited BladeWorks would require GENEON-UNIVERSAL to simply drop dead--- Literally.
In several press interviews with the creators from Geneon it has been addressed that GENEON has no intentions on even ALLOWING this movie to leave Japan's borders. It is by their own declaration a "JAPAN ONLY" feature film. So it is not by FUNimation or anyone else that they haven't given it an overview, but by the creator itself that no one is allowed to have it PERIOD.
I know, I'm REALLY bummed out about this myself. But after reading about it only moments after the film was announced to be in theaters, I felt hugely discouraged.... But then I found my own way around it.... (Soft confession) But having seen the movie, I think it's a huge loss to Japan that It will never see release outside our borders.
My only hope is that Geneon will not do the same with Fate/Zero. Likewise, they did it again to us when they released Fate/Stay Night TV 2010. (A redevelopment of the first season, but better graphics, added scenes and in Widescreen presentation.)
Makes me wonder what Geneon-Universal is up to. Do they NOT want America to have ANY of their productions anymore? Food for thought.
Mm, back when UBW was announced, I didn't read the press release. I just saw the title of the article and went about celebrating. What you say makes me think Geneon might still be a little bitter about having to close down their North American branch. Sore losers, maybe?
funimation is not going to licenses the movie but sentai film works bought the rights to the movie about a month ago in english dub. So expect it some time this year.
It is available for preorder right now on rightstuf.com. I have never heard of this movie but I would like to know a little more about it. I will definitely be buying it to add to my collection but is it a continuing storyline or is it one of those movies that just slaps all of the episodes together.
The movie is actually a retelling of F/SN following the Unlimited Blade Works(Rin Tohsaka) route of the Visual Novel.

Sentai Filmworks released the film last month.
