FUNimation is the leading company for home video sales of Japanese animation in the United States. FUNimation is known for acquiring top-rated anime series from Japan and for developing some of North America's most popular anime series.
FUNimation does not offer tours to the public at this time.
We are currently reviewing and evaluating other anime. Continue to look for more quality anime from FUNimation. Subscribe to the FUNimation Update Newsletter for the latest information.
It is a possibility that we may acquire some of the other titles currently held by Geneon. FUNimation is constantly researching new acquisitions, but there is no information available at this time.
Our partnership with Geneon is simply to market and distribute a select group of titles on its behalf. Geneon will continue to handle the production of all of its series.
Currently, we are only streaming the episodes on our video player. We are not releasing the DVDs and/or Blu-rays of the shows at this time, nor are there plans for DVD and/or Blu-ray releases in the future.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept or consider creative ideas, suggestions, or materials submitted by outside sources, such as original artwork or ideas for characters, stories, products or games. To avoid any confusion as to ownership of intellectual property, it is also our policy not to circulate any such submissions to other persons in the company. For more information, please read our Terms of Use policy.
How does FUNimation provide ratings for its anime series? How does FUNimation edit its anime series?
We can tell you that you should be looking at two separate lines of questioning: anime on television/broadcast and anime on DVD and/or Blu-ray. There will be different editing/rating decisions made for each type of release. FUNimation works with broadcasters to determine the edits that are made for the anime that is shown on U.S. TV. That is regulated by the government. You should be able to find some good research on TV ratings in the United States.
The anime DVDs that are released in the U.S. are a different matter. FUNimation determines the ratings for each of the DVDs we release. We work from general guidelines of the motion picture ratings system, but we self-regulate in order to make sure government regulation is not needed.
All FUNimation DVD and Blu-ray releases are uncut unless marked otherwise.
Taking an artwork into a new medium such as 3D animation and/or creating fan fiction based on an existing artwork usually does not fall under Fair Use. For more on fair use, please see this Wikipedia entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use
Such works are generally considered “derivative works” and the right to create such works is one of the exclusive rights of a copyright holder. 17 USC § 106(2)
If someone creates a derivative work without authorization from the copyright holder, they can be liable for copyright infringement. Whether we will seek to go after them or not, is another story... If the purpose is educational or demonstrative and it’s limited to a rather short piece, it may indeed be Fair Use. But if someone starts making a new series or starts making 3D versions of several existing episodes, it’s probably infringement—especially if they’re taking “donations.”
We cannot expressly authorize you to upload video or use FUNimation’s content. We can tell you, however, that we do not plan to take legal action against creators/distributors of anime-based media that qualifies as a fair use of the underlying animation. Nor do we tend to remove such media intentionally, provided that the video is clearly marked in a way that would identify it as a fair use [in the title] such as a satire, parody, review or critique. For more on fair use, please see this Wikipedia entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use
Also, please bear in mind that video streaming services such as YouTube occasionally employ "video fingerprinting" technology to identify and remove videos containing ANY unauthorized footage, whether it's arguably a fair use or not.
In summary, while we cannot expressly authorize you to upload such media, we will not actively seek to remove any that you do decide to upload, provided that it is [and is readily identifiable as] a fair use of the media, such as a satire, parody, AMV, critique or review. If you believe your content was taken down in error, please file a counter-notification for alleged infringement at
http://video.google.com/support/bin/request.py?contact_type=cyc and follow the instructions.
Good news! Select FUNimation series are now available on www.itunes.ca/funimation. Expect more titles to be added soon.
There is only one season of the Fruits Basket anime. A second season is not in production. If you are looking for the rest of the story, please check out the manga.
Dragon Ball AF is not real. The AF stands for "April Fools", and what started as an April Fools' Day prank turned into the Internet rumor of today.
There might be some fan fiction (and a pretty awesome Italian fan art) out there, but nothing official. It is not a series in production, produced by the original Dragon Ball creators, or distributed by FUNimation.
Dragon Ball Z Kai is the latest series in the Dragon Ball franchise.
Nothing official has been announced regarding the titles: “Dragon Ball: Yo! The Return of Son Goku and Friends!!” or “Dragon Ball Z: The Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans.” Any announcements concerning new acquisitions will posted in our News section.
The Dragon Box is a release intended for fans of the Japanese Dragon Ball Z release. It mimics the Japanese collectors edition of Dragon Ball Z, which is also titled "Dragon Box".
Each volume of the FUNimation Dragon Box release contains a hardcover book and the Japanese remastered footage including the original Japanese openings and closings and the next episode previews. FUNimation's Dragon Box does contain the English dub, but the default audio track is set to Japanese.
The Dragon Box does not contain the U.S. broadcast music.
Unfortunately, there are no current plans to continue dubbing episodes of Case Closed past season five. The good news is you can keep up with Detective Conan through our releases of the Case Closed movies, in stores now!
Unfortunately, only the Japanese creators know the answer to that one. Try finding out on Wikipedia, Google, or Anime News Network.
Please see our license request thread in the forum. Please search the thread before adding your request.
The FUNimation Channel is available nationwide on DISH Network, AT&T U-verse, Comcast, and other select operators via digital broadcast and cable service. The FUNimation Channel website (www.funimationchannel.com) has a "Get It" section that tells you where the FUNimation Channel is available. There is also a zip code search function that helps you find out how to contact your local cable or satellite provider to request the FUNimation Channel.
Your best bet is to check www.funimationchannel.com. You will find our programming schedule as well as the series and latest acquisitions that will be shown on the FUNimation Channel. You can also find out how to get the FUNimation Channel in your area.
We continually update the programming on the FUNimation Channel, but we follow a standard programming format that includes a repeat cycle. As the FUNimation Channel matures and we add programming, you can expect the programming to mature and diversify as well. For the latest news and programming updates, make sure to check www.funimationchannel.com.
We are looking into the possibility of programming subtitled anime on the FUNimation Channel.
We know there are a lot of anime fans in Canada and other countries, and we would love to bring the FUNimation Channel to them. However, there are all kinds of international broadcast rights and approvals that have to be satisfied in order for the FUNimation Channel to reach outside of the United States. Unfortunately, there is no information on a timeline.
For the most part, FUNimation uses local actors from the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
If you live nearby and would like to audition in person, we have open auditions about once a year. There is no set schedule for when our next open auditions will be. To be included on the call list, send an email to voice.acting@funimation.com with a request for information on voice acting, a contact number, and a brief summary of any acting experience you may have.
If you live outside the area and have access to record a demo, please send an mp3 file via email also to voice.acting@funimation.com.
FUNimation accepts resumes throughout the year for our internship program. Undergrad college students can apply for positions in any of the following departments:
- Marketing (focus on PR, Marketing, Media, Social Media, Film)
- Creative Services (creative development, digital content, web design)
- IT (Information Technology)
- Production (Trailer Development, Editing, Sound Design)
- Consumer Licensing (Licensing, Acquisitions)
The most critical traits for the FUNimation intern candidates are reliability, integrity, and the ability to take initiative as well as direction. Computer literacy, excellent communication and writing skills, and an interest in anime are all strong advantages. All intern candidates must live locally in the DFW area.
Resumes can be sent to interns@funimation.com.
FUNimation is a licensing and distribution company and does not make anime, so we do not have any animators on staff. We do have graphic artists that design DVD and Blu-ray covers, ads, posters, and promotional items. We also have motion graphics artists that create our trailers and web designers that design our websites including the one you are on right now.

If you experience a dead link, video quality issue, or incorrect video, please let us know by e-mailing webmaster@funimation.com with a description and link to the video.
Fix #1: It is probably a conflict with the "Do not track" feature on AVG Free, and antivirus program. Please disable this addon while you are on FUNimation.com and trying to watch EVS video. If you need help doing this, please refer to this page on AVG's site.
Fix #2: It is a conflict with Hamachi VPN or other similar VPN software. If you are running such software, please disable it.
Basically, if you have something that modifies how your computer is connecting to the internet, it could conflict with the player.
This is a bug. Please email webmaster@funimation.com, so that we can add your IP or IP range to our database.
This is a bug in Firefox. Please try using Google Chrome.
If you are outside of the U.S.A. or Canada, that message means that you will not be able to watch the video. Unfortunately, we do not have streaming rights for your country.
If you live in the U.S.A. or Canada, please email webmaster@funimation.com. This could be related to a bug, and we will need to add your IP or IP range to our database.
When switching between resolutions or between standard and full screen modes, the controls get cropped off for some monitor size/screen resolution settings. You may need to change your screen's resolution to get the controls to show up.
The FUNimation Subscription Service video player uses adaptive bitrate streaming. Depending on your internet connection, it will adjust the quality of the video to maintain playability without pausing to buffer. If you are on a slower connection and would like to maintain 720p playback throughout, let the video buffer for at least a minute or two before playing.
If you were part of the invite-only closed beta, then your age was not entered into your profile. Please send our admin, Sophie, a private message, and she will fix it for you.
This means that the video is only available to Elite Video Subscribers. In order to become a subscriber, you'll need to go to www.funimation.com/subscribe and click on the "Start Your Free Trial" button. Fill out the form, and you'll have access to over 5500 more videos.
Thank you for the question, Animator!
This probably means that your computer has Adobe Flash player version 10 or above and an older video card. To fix, right click on the video, select settings, and uncheck the box next to "Enable hardware acceleration".
To keep from having to do this, your computer needs a newer graphic card - at least a Geforce 7xxx or ATI X1300 with the latest driver installed.
If you have the video paused, the flash player will time out after three to five minutes. You may need to refresh and start the video over again. However, you can scrub through the video to the point you left off by clicking on the time line below the video.
Internet connectivity and system resource are likely the reason. Here are some general guidelines for improving video playback.
- If you’re using a wireless connection, try it over a wired connection or ensure that your Internet connection is at least 1Mbps (1,000 kbps) download speed.
- If this seems to happen during full-screen mode, try to lower your desktop screen resolution or watch the video on the in-page player. You may also right-click on the video player and select ‘Settings’ on the menu. Click on the first tab, which should display a check box for ‘Enable hardware acceleration’. Make sure this check box is checked.
- Try to close or pause any bandwidth or RAM-intensive applications running on your computer.
Please check to see your computer meets the website requirements above. This could also be caused by a firewall configuration and/or a Firefox add-on. You will find some other scenarios listed below:
- If you don’t see a large play button over the video player, you may not have the right flash player installed. Click to install Flash.
- When you click on the play button, you should see an advertisement play. If you don’t see this, please disable any add-ons that may block advertisements.
- If you see the advertisement but nothing loads after the video, please visit http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/164/tn_16466.html to test your port connectivity. Your firewall will need to have port 1935 open to play our videos.
- If your port is configured correctly, you could be located outside of North America. All of our videos have rights for specific territories. We are working to open up additional territories as we acquire new shows and rights. However, our videos are currently only viewable in the US and Canada.
- If you see the words ‘error’ on the top left of the video player, this could be an issue with the video file. Please let us know by emailing us at feedback@funimation.com.
- First, please try refreshing the page. If that doesn’t seem to work, try to clear your ‘Temporary Internet Files’ and then refresh the page.
- If you have any ad-blocking or script-blocking software or plug-ins, they will need to be disabled or uninstalled to view videos on our website. We cannot assist with any issues if they are installed.
Click on "Log in" at the top of any page on FUNimation.com. Enter the email address that you used to register with in the box below the text "Forgot your password?", and click on the "E-mail new password" button. You will receive an email with a link to reset your password.
If you ever receive a forgot password email that you did not request, don't worry. You can disregard the email, and the link will expire.
To search, type your search terms in the search bar located at the top of any page underneath the FUNimation Logo, and either click next to the magnifying glass icon or hit the "Enter" key. You will be taken to a page of results for the terms you entered. There you can click on any of the results, or start over by typing in other search terms in either the search bar at the top or the search bar on the search results.

RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.
RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. You ensure your privacy, by not needing to join each site's email newsletter. The number of sites offering RSS feeds is growing rapidly and includes big names like Yahoo News.
Feed Reader or News Aggregator software allow you to grab the RSS feeds from various sites and display them for you to read and use.
A variety of RSS Readers are available for different platforms. Some popular feed readers include Amphetadesk (Windows, Linux, Mac), FeedReader (Windows), and NewsGator (Windows - integrates with Outlook). There are also a number of web-based feed readers available. My Yahoo, Bloglines, and Google Reader are popular web-based feed readers.
Once you have your Feed Reader, it is a matter of finding sites that syndicate content and adding their RSS feed to the list of feeds your Feed Reader checks. Many sites display a small icon with the acronyms RSS, XML, or RDF to let you know a feed is available.
To subscribe to an RSS Feed, simply click on or copy and paste one of the feeds into an RSS reader.
Here's what we have to offer.
If you would like more feeds, you can make a request in the Tech Support forum.
Yes, we'd love for you to be a volunteer. Please visit this page for more information.
