Basically what are things you like about the series, and what are things you dislike about it?
As for me I would say...
Things I like...
- Long Running shonen is just fun in general imo
- It has an interesting setting, Im glad we finally have a long running series about wizards & guilds, popular RPG tropes that don't seem to be used in animation as muc as they could be.
- Nice Balance between cheesy comedy & action
- Erza Scarlet.
I find her to be the most itneresting and likeable out of FT's female cast so far.
Things I dislike
- Falls into the same cliches & tropes many other long running shonen do at times.
- some secondary/ background charcters could use a little more development (this is a problem with toons & comics in general impo, lesser chars always need more love lol)
- Lucy: OK she's not a horrible character, but as a female lead she's pretty much cliche as can be so far. Yeah she's kind hearted overall, but at times acts fairly vain, she depends far to much on her physical attractiveness to get what she wants at times, and she can also be kind of annoying. Again she's not horrible, but she does overall need to grow as a character imo.
So yeah what are your favorite & least favorite things about FT?

Well I like pretty much everything about Fairy Tail!
Likes - Overall it's the way the music makes the moment that really does it for me.
As of dislikes - the only thing I can think of (anime wise) is everything moves too fast. Arcs a over in less than 8 episodes! So many great characters they could make some pretty good filler about them!
You mean she TRIES to depend of her physical attractiveness, which usually fails horribly. From the first episode where she fails to get a discount on the Plue key, to the Duke calling her ugly. It's a running gag to pick on Lucy Happy even makes weight jokes from time to time.
Stuff I like:
- The characters. Most of the main cast is pretty fleshed-out and likable. Even some of the side characters, as well. Their designs are pretty nice too.
- The powers. Specifically Natsu aand Erza's are pretty cool. The variety is fun, too. Ranging from absurd to overpowered, not unlike a certain pirate manga.
- I have to say Setting as well. There aren't a whole lot of fantasy anime with an actual fantasy setting.
- The big one is the music. The soundtrack for this show is really outstanding.
Stuff I don't like:
- The usual long-running shounen trappings. Filler, episode padding, blegh. Even the manga has filler
- The Fanservice. It's within reasonable levels, but it's still pretty off-putting and mostly unnecessary.
- Mashima's writing. He's awful at foreshadowing. Things are either so vague they come out of left field or too abvious to ahve any impact.
-Natsu always hogs the spotlight. Par for the course for this type of anime, but some of the liberal plot-magic used to get him and the big-bad to duel is eyeroll-inducing. He also wins 90% of his battles by yelling his attack names loudest and taking inhuman amounts of damage.
Don't forget. Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you.
As long as you remember Her, you are not alone.
How far into the series are you, Soundmonkey?
@Renzokuken: I wouldn't call those trappings. They've been utilized fairly well in FT and even in general, they can often flesh out and enhance the story. Just saying...
@Everyone: This might take a while.
I like much about the series and dislike little about it.
I like Fairy Tail a lot, but I do get bothered by a couple things:
-there is no blood whatsoever. I'm not sadistic or anything, but when Leon stabbed Gray with that ice thing he definitely should've bled but he didn't!
-the arcs go by too quickly and they're not really related to each other. I don't especially like series that have several arcs. Sure that gives good character development, but the arcs should probably be longer and have a central conflict like Soul Eater or something.
-fanservice is stupid. They can show some butts and boobs but not blood? Really?
That's pretty much it for the dislikes. For the things I like I really like the comedy especially Juvia. I also really like learning about people's past especially Erza's
PATTY THOMPSON FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On the Fanservice issue , at least it goes both ways right? I mean for the female fans Gray was almost full frontal in the second episode and I hear in the manga those Gray moments are a little more risque.
I hadn't really given it much thought, but now that you mention it... I wonder what they're going to do when they get to the
manga spoilers
Two wrongs don't make a right
But at least Gray has an excuse I guess.

As long as you remember Her, you are not alone.
I'm surprised and amused the fanservice is even a complaint. It's hot and never overly risque nor does it really ever take away any emphasis on the current situation.
I will say that I'm not too fond of the blood missing either. It makes select scenes nonsensical.
@Renzokuken: I think it's gonna be more than just a few.
@naviproductions: Relating to your third point, Japan isn't America. Just saying, the violence is the more vulgar element if we're comparing the two, especially the lack of any truly full or even risque exposures.
@Everyone: In all, my largest complaint is the lack of blood. The pacing was odd, but not what I'd call noticeable outside of the manga-reader community.
I'll get back to my favorite topics about the show.
Likes:
-- The comedy, as anyone who's read my posts about the show should know.
Comedy is, in my opinion, Mashima's strongest area--in fact, I find myself wishing that he'd take it one step further and make the title a complete parody of the Shonen genre.
-- I like the concept of mostly focusing on a side character. Natsu is "The Hero" of course, but Fairy Tail arguably focuses most on Lucy.
-- The music is INCREDIBLE. Bonus points for using the bagpipe of all instruments (after hearing it in the show, I now think that instrument needs more love).
-- I LOVE the dub. If it goes on with the same quality I've seen, Fairy Tail could easily become one of Funimation's best dubs. It's actually the first anime I've definitely decided I prefer in English (the Japanese cast is serviceable, but overall feels as though they're just "going through the motions" so to speak).
Dislikes:
-- Fairy Tail's attempt at drama is mixed. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's embarrassingly bad, but most of the time it's just...okay. But most of all, it usually feels jarring and unnatural.
-- Even for a long running Shonen title, the animation is kind of spotty, particularly in the first few episodes.
-- The anime's pacing is kind of off, sometimes beginning a new story arc in the same episode it ended the last one. It's especially noticeable with Erza's past.
I honestly couldn't remember WHO he was.
"Of course you realize, this means war!" -- Bugs Bunny
"Here we gooooo!" -- Mario
To be fair, it's not a problem I have specifically with Fairy Tail, but media in general. When I was kid, watching Misty walk around in micro-shorts for 25 mins was the highlight of my day(Bring her back you bastards
). But now that I've grown out of it, I just find the whole concept unscrupulous and kinda insulting. As if I couldn't get through a TV show without a hot female taking her clothes off. Not to mention it's sort of objectifying on a lot of levels. I'm not saying it's always a bad thing, but it's very, very hard to do right. Again, just my opinion bla bla bla I'm getting off this topic before I derail the thread anymore.

I'm a girl, so I find the fanservice a little insulting and with the Gray thing, it's just that he's shirtless all the time, sure, for the first few episodes with him I was all like "Gray's so hot!! X3" But I'm just used to it now. For girl fanservice it's like they make them wear clothes that really make it stand out *cough*OVA*cough* Also, I didn't like it when they were at the tower of heaven and
