I would like to know why Slayers isn't in the Similar Shows list for Fairy Tail. Yes, I know, people have been comparing Fairy Tail to One Piece, and while I don't neccesarily disagree with them, I have noticed that Fairy Tail has some commonalities with Slayers as well. For one thing, both Natsu and Lina Inverse are fire mages who eat a lot and cause property damage. The settings are similar too, and they had similar tones. They were rather comedic action-adventure fantasy shows, with occasional detours through the dark and depressing, usually with a light at the end of each dark tunnel though.

Fairy Tail and Slayers

Yeah it should be there, I think Slayers would classify as Shonen along with Fairy Tail
I never even considered the idea of Slayers being a shounen action series, but if you put it that way, then that's another reason why it may be a good idea for Funimation to update the "Similar Shows" list to include Slayers.

I wanted to say something on the "Is Fairy Tail better than all the long running anime shows like One Piece...? " forum that sadly closed down: Out of all the shounen shows out there, why does Fairy Tail get compared to One Piece in particular? Is it because the art styles are similar? And why does nobody even bother to compare it to Slayers?

I found something that compared Fairy Tail to Slayers for a brief moment:
It was on this page: http://anime.about.com/od/fairytail/fr/Fairy-Tail-Part-I.htm

Fairy Tail gets compared to One Piece because both are action-comedy shonen manga with many similarities, mostly due to the fact that both Oda and Mashima were inspired by similar works (E.g. Dragon Ball Z. Goku and Naruto, also inspired by DBZ, have similar characteristics to Luffy and Natsu).
My Top 5 Anime:
1. Dragonball Z. 2. One Piece. 3. Naruto. 4. Fairy Tail. 5. Bleach.
Don't hate me because I only like 1 type of anime, I just love it that much! ^_^
That is actually a very good point. However, lots of shows in the shounen genre have these traits, and I think I noticed them in Soul Eater. Somewhat. Still, I guess there are some commonalities between the two shows after all.
On that note, I was wondering if you were willing to give Slayers a try because if you watch it, you might find that Fairy Tail has several things in common with that show as well.
By the way, I'm not going to say that Fairy Tail is better than One Piece, but I will say that I did become interested in Fairy Tail more easily. When I was in middle school, I did watch One Piece every so often, (and unfortunately it was the infamous 4kids dub but I had my rose-colored glasses on at the time) but while I enjoyed watching it, I didn't grow attached to it. One issue I did have with it, though, was that battles would end up taking multiple episodes to complete. I remember coming home from school and watching episodes of One Piece airing on Cartoon Network and it was that battle on the ship. The fight moved on at a slow pace and I had to come back day after day to see it resolved. With Fairy Tail, though, fight scenes came at went at a more satisfying pace, and this pretty much allowed me to get into the show more easily. The only other shounen action shows that I got into were Soul Eater and Yu Yu Hakusho.
