Just finished watching Evangelion 2.0 and let me just say.......... it is so epic that this tiny forum could not handle the amount of awesome in that film. First off you get a new character, second more emotion from other wise emotionless characters, and finally a nice new coat of paint to sweatin the deal. If you like Evangelion before this is a must buy (bluray all the way) just for sheer amount of new story and the new animation. If you have never seen or just want to jump into the movies....GO RIGHT AHEAD YOU WONT REGRET IT. 1.0 is great but 2.0 is as its name says. Its twice the awesome!

Evangelion 2.0 = A mind blowing series upgrade that makes the orginal look bad
I must say this is one of the few times a sequal is better than the original.
Let me ask this did these new movies define anime for 20 years? Or will they? Eva was mind blowing and ground breaking for its time. Sure it is dated now and its flaws have been exposed and harped on for years and years, heck there are still panels at cons about the series.
It is really easy to look at the current and call it the best with anything especially if you do not remember the old when it hit its peak and changed anime forever. Before Eva anime often had an "innocence" about it. The bigger shows were all fairly cute and happy. Eva was the first to show a kid completely go nuts or have humanity really get its butt handed to it.
Evangelion 2.0 is pretty, and while I'm a fan I doubt it will hardly ever live up to the full success story of the series.
This is purely a comparison between 1.0 and 2.0, not the TV series right?
2.0 has nothing graphically over 1.0, they both use the same new technology to re-do the look of the 1995 TV series. I wonder what will happen in 3.0 that will triple our enjoyment.
Same here. I fear this is just a viscous cycle making the new shiny the standard by which all are measured whenever the number on the end increases.
No the intent of the thread was to compare the movies to the show. That is why I think the OP is pretty far off in their assessment of the situation.
Um in my opinion it was probably just as good as the series. And dont get me wrong neon genesis was one of the first animes i ever bought. Its one of my favorites of all time for sure. But these movies take what the series had and add alittle more to an already great package. I would like to think of it as an extension of the series. Im just happy its loved enought to have this done to it. I wish every great anime could have a re design such as this. At the time i posted this i was just in so much awe of the movie that i might have jumped over board with saying its better than the series. It just added alot of what i wanted. New story and more emotion from characters like rei and asuka. Are 1.0 and 2.0 great? Yes. Is the series great? Hell yes. But i dont see the point of saying its bad just because there giving it a new look. Whatever can get more people interested and make this series even better im all for it. And i really hope there is a different ending because i didnt like the orginal ending at all. The movie or the series
Oh I'm not saying the movies are bad at all. I own the first one and will be getting the second. However I just wanted to give the original series the respect it was due. I generally love "mental" shows like the first eva series, Heck my favorite anime of all time are Higurashi and Umineko. I wouldn't have those if it wasn't for the original Eva series.
Ya i guess we both agree.....Evangelion is awesome. But trust me the second movie by far is the better film. The changes in story are what got me
The tv series and end of evangelion will always be my fav but iam happy with rebuild.
That reminds me... You ever watch Godfather 2? And the original Star Wars trilogy?

I rented the first Rebuild of Evangelion film, and then I got the second for Christmas last year. On Blu-Ray!
Now, I can't wait for the third film to come out. Not just in Japan, but especially in the U.S! Too bad I'll have to endure all this waiting, though.
