So I was trying it out, and was immediately interested within the first few minutes of the first episode. It seemed to be a very smart series and it's the first one that I've newly discovered that I've actually *liked* in a very long time.
Then I got to episode four, and that scene happened. So my question is, what in the name of all that is good WAS that? It seemed the series was above including weird fetishes in hopes of higher viewership, but that scene sort of killed it for me. I'm willing to let it go and pretend it didn't happen if that's the only occurence, or if there's a *very* good reason of it being there.
So ... does it happen again, and if it does happen again is there at least a good reason (PLOT reason) for it?

I'm not sure exactly which part you're talking about. I don't remember what all happens in each episode.
The weird skeleton things licking at him.
Oh yeah that's just a one time thing. I hardly even remembered it at the end of the series. Now that you've mentioned it, I'm racking my brain trying to think what that was all about. Maybe it was all in his head? As far as I remember, the skeletons do not make a second appearance in the series. I haven't seen the movies yet though.
It was something weird that he imagined, because they vanished a moment later and the place he was standing in looked different, but it just seemed so random and weird. But if it`s such a small thing that you hardly even remember it, that`s all I needed to know! I can enjoy the series then. Thanks for answering <3
(I can forgive it if it's a one time thing, but I was concerned that the series might be full of it.)
It appears once more, but not really all that random the second time, it's not explained either, in my own opinion, I just think it's something that has to do with his past haunting him, or side effects of the brainwashing software he used to wipe his memories.
Chalk it up as a BLAM.
Signature? What signature?
I'm not sure I'd really consider that scene a big lipped alligator moment. Takizawa has a lot on his mind at that point (as well as the whole series), from his involvement in Careless Monday, to the disappearing NEETs and his own life, and even his dog. The scene seemed more like a crystallized nightmare of all Takizawa's worries and concerns, rather than plain, old WTF-ery.
Yeah I'm pretty sure it's relevant, I just don't quite know why, so I'm totally cool with calling it a BLAM moment.
Click the spoiler but be warned, it may answer your question without you finding out by watching.
Yes I'll admit, I cry at the end of good animes.
Eh, that's not too spoiler-y. That's kind of what I assumed anyway.
