I am very disappointed with Dragon Ball Z Kai and I have a few questions...
Why was the only black character, Mr. Popo, changed blue? I assume that someone thought Mr. Popo was a negative presentation of a black person, so they decided to turn him blue. I guess they figured NO BLACK CHARACTERS is somehow better than a character that they think is a bad one. I am a black person, and I think it is condescending that the color of the ONLY black character was changed.
Why are all of the impacts for punches and kicks cut from the cartoon? I mean, we only see a split second before a strike lands and a split second afterward. Is this to cut time from the cartoon, or is there some politically correct reasoning for not showing the impacts?
Why did Gohan have on underwear after changing back from a great ape after falling on Vegeta? It's a cartoon! Is there some politically correct reason why you couldn't show Gohan's butt? Has our society fallen so much that it would be seen as inappropriate or something?
The series is highly disappointing.

Please....please tell me you actually bought the DVDs and/or watched the uncut episodes, instead of basing your thoughts solely on the version that was aired on American television.
Because if not, that's just stupid.
Are you suggesting that on the uncut DVD Mr. Popo will be black again? Somehow I highly doubt it. And YES, I am basing my thoughts on the version that is being shown on TV because I don't like what is being presented. I don't care about the DVD. I care about the version that is being presented to the masses on network television.
lol dude that's the 4kids version! They are known for screwing things up!
The Nicktoons version has normal Mr.Popo and the DVDs are uncut.
That's cool and all, but I wonder why they would present such a skewed version to the kids anyway?
Why change Mr. Popo's color in the first place? Why cut out a punch or kick landing?
What does changing Popo to blue accomplish?
It's 4kids! They feel the need to edit it's just the way they are.
Even if no one complained about Mr.Popo in over 20 years they just felt the need is all.
Why change rice balls into cookies and sandwiches?
Why change pots and pans to toy pots and pans?
Why skip entire arcs of One Piece and Yu-Gi-Oh GX and 5Ds?
They are 4kids ruiner of anime that's why.
I think changing the RACE of characters goes a little too far though. That's not just a simple story change, but they are changing the racial makeup of characters for foolish reasons.
Kinda like how the characters from Avatar were changed to white people.
As a person of color I'm offended. "That's just the way they are," is NOT good enough for me.
Shouldn't be offended so easily. Sometimes they feel the need to censor or edits things that wasn't needed to be done. The attempt to make things more kiddy for a younger audience. If you bought the DVDs, there wouldn't be a reason to complain.
Being wrong is not a democracy!
The Mr. Popo being blue is not a 4kids' issue but a CW issue.
Remember when Pokemon was airing on Kids' WB and episodes featuring Jynx were skipped (even after Jynx's color was changed from black to purple). Well 'The WB' got complains about Jynx being black stereotype, so that anything that could be a black stereotype in change will be changed or edited.
Since you are watching the CW version, they are broadcast (over the air) and have to following certain standards or get fined by the FCC. So for children programming you cannot nudity or the impact of punches, kicks, etc.
Please explain to me why they would change the color of a character for ANY reason? If you are not a person of color, don't tell me what I shouldn't be offended by.
It may be because I never thought of Mr. Popo as "human" that I don't see him as "black" as a race. Since Dragon Ball has human/animal hybrid I always thought of him as a seal-man.
Other people think he is a genie , I can see that since he does were Arabian type clothing and uses a flying carpet - wonder if that offends Arabs?
