I don't mind GT. Once I get past the first 16 or so episodes, which can get pretty boring, I find myself really enjoying it. I like the whole concept of the Shadow Dragons. The idea of the Dragon Balls being the series' final villain was pretty neat.
Here's my theory on GT. GT was a good series, but the reason why people hate it is because Dragonball and Dragonball Z were so amazing that when GT came out people's expectations were really really high and they were looking for the series to be just as good, if not better, then the first 2 series's. This however is not how it happened and because GT wasn't as good as Z or Dragonball people automatically registered in there head "This series sucks" The series by itself is actually a really good series, but when compared to Dragonball and Dragonball Z (which people automatically compare to since it ha "Dragonball" in it's name) It somewhat "sucks" I liked GT and i did, like OPN, like the ending better then the Z ending. At least it was a "ending" rather then a "oh, the story is going to go on but you don't get to see what happens next" ending.
I hate GT and regret ever agreeing to watch it with friends.
Aside from some cool designs GT offered nothing new or interesting to the DB franchise. GT had bad story that in order to focus on Goku they had to re-write and kill of every other character to explain why Goku was the only effective fighter in the whole damn series.
It just wasn't very good. I don't hate it, but the flaws really get in the way of enjoying it. The only things that were really cool about it were Uub fusing with Buu and the concept of the Shadow Dragons. Other than that, it was pretty bad.
Honestly, it felt more like a fanfiction than a professional story. I could say a lot of things that were wrong about it, but I'm not in the mood, so I'll do it later.
Technically, there is a manga adaptation in Japan, but I don't think I would totally count it since I believe it used screencaps from the anime. I think there's something about it on Kanzentai.
I think I'll expand upon my previous post, now that I own all of GT on DVD: I think it's a great slam bang finish to the Dragon Ball franchise. Finishing with the end of DBZ really leaves things open. GT basically wraps everything up. It ends at a point where it would be hard to continue. I wouldn't mind seeing a Goku Jr. spinoff, but that's beside the point. I like that GT brings the Dragon Balls back into the main plot, since they acted as only a side-element in DBZ. GT kinda brings both series together and gives the series a good finale. Sure Toriyama was only lightly involved, but he did approve the series, and staff did consist of many key people from the DB and DBZ anime series. GT lacked some of the Toriyama charm, but so did the Majin Buu arc, and he DID work on that. I think the designers in GT did a great job replicating Toriyama's style, though he did do some of the character designs. I especially love Pan's outfit. I loved that Goku was a kid again too since I liked him better that way anyway.
Bottom line: GT's not the greatest, but it's worth a try.
To me, GT is to Dragon Ball, what Evolution/Revolution-R is to Slayers... it's just more of the stuff the fans loved. I don't think it was intended to be a groundbreaking masterpiece, and I have never had a problem with it. It's funny in all the right places, and entertaining in just the right spots. Flaws and canon be damned.
i now like GT's Original soundtrack better than dbz,if anyone can believe that.

heres something i was thinking about,
which do you think is better:
The garlic Jr saga of dbz or the entire DBGT series?
for me obviously,it would be GT.
im just kinda curious, and also bored at work.
GT was entertaining. I still dont like it how goku becomes a kid. ITs sad even when his power lv went down everyone was STILL weaker.
