Funimation announced on Thursday that it has suspended production on all future Blu-ray releases of the Dragon Ball Z television anime series, including the Level 2.1 disc that was originally scheduled to be released on March 27.
Funimation said that it had produced the Blu-ray editions of the series due to fan demand; however, the company explained that "due to technical challenges of restoring from the original film frame by frame, we are unable to continue these releases by way of this process." The company added it will re-evaluate its process of creating these Blu-rays and will research more efficient methods of restoration.
Funimation announced last July that it would release the series for the first time on Blu-ray. Funimation and the Dallas-based company ANDTRANSFER remastered the series from the original Japanese 16mm film reels at 1080p, keeping the original 4:3 aspect ratio. The first set, Dragon Ball Z Level 1.1, was released with the first 17 episodes on November 8.

Such a shame. Not that I ever had any interest in buying them, but it sucks for those who wanted to see it in HD (without it being Kai), or wanted a complete release with the 4:3 picture and dub soundtrack.

It sucks for the people who couldn't get the Dragon Boxes.
I'm going to go over to my Dragon Boxes and caress them.
Come to Otaku Revolution!
You know sad thing is, this was the release I was finally gonna get off my lazy flank and get all of DBZ, meh, oh well I'll just get the orange bricks im missing, not like i really needed the Blu-Rays anywho, hardly ever re-watch any of my DBZ stuff as is. Although I do feel like a major heel for bothering to buy level 1.1 & 1.2. Guess I'll just sell em back to my local Hastings for store credit and cut my losses.

Yeah that has to hurt. Looks like the task was too big.
For something being FUNi's so called baby, it sure does get beat around alot. I bought both 1.1 and 1.2 on sale and they look amazing compared to the Bricks. This sucks big time since I couldn't wait for all the releases. Well lets hope they find a cheaper way of making them or something since both the DBoxes and Bricks look terrible on a big HDTV upscaled fully.

I think FUNimation has to just face up and possibly do what Toei did(except it being limited and all) Not only would they put the effort in they may also put the effort into an amazing box set collection.
That.. or Toei got involved and liked what they saw.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm so happy I dropped Dragon Ball Z.
well....god dammit
What Lovely Boxes!
