Well this was certainly unexpected, but it looks like everyone who didn't like Kai stopping after the Cell material is going to get their wish after all. The Japanese cast have confirmed they're recording new episodes of Kai, going into the Buu material, but that the show...won't be airing in Japan. That's bizarre, but not unprecedented apparently.
No word yet on if FUNi is going to snag these new episodes, but I'd say there's little chance they won't, and I'll even be surprised if they don't end up on Nicktoons (unless Nicktoons' GT airing kills their interest in the franchise or something).
So, thoughts anyone?

I think it's a little odd, on more than a few points.
Does this point to lackluster overall expectation of the show in Japan? Are they hoping to cash in other places, that wouldn't do well domestically(Japan)? Is this madness?
So many questions.
I'm certainly not trying to stir the pot, but I would like to see this lead to a minor revamp/remake of the franchise. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if they started the whole thing over, beginning with BD... but then, that's wishful thinking, and has nothing to do with these new episodes. So I'll just sit back and read about it, until I have to start chirping.

Maybe some company outside of Japan (like Nick or Saban Brands) is helping with this.
Maybe OVAs in Japan.
Honestly, I'm kind of torn about this. Re-watching the beginning of this arc with the Dragon Boxes has led to my belief that unlike a lot of Z, Toei actually did a really good job the first time around. I'd hate to see that undergo sloppy treatment...
Guess we'll have to see, though.

Man, I haven't been here for God knows how long. It's been a long while.
Anyway, this is good news for me. With the Buu arc getting the Kai treatment, it now feels complete.

-----------
Me too. I now feel compelled to get Seasons 1 - 3 on Blu-ray (and when is 4 coming out?!). If I learn anything as a grown up, it is that time is precious. I do not have time to revisit 291 episodes of Dragon Ball Z. I'd literally fall asleep in between episodes as hard as I try not to.
I don't think it has anything to do with the fact I'm older either as I enjoy many shows today. It's really just the dragged out pacing.
I'm a bit worried how they'd condense it because everything from the Great Saiyaman Saga 'til the end of Buu I actually genuinely enjoyed. It is the only sagas I'm real awake for. My friend and I would keep saying how we love the sagas especially Great Saiyaman and World Tournament because you don't see the Z fighters that happy so often despite the tension that follows. I know that sounded cheasy but that's really how I feel for it.
