It looks like we're getting another short manga serial, this time about Bardock.

The manga is apparently going to be three chapters if I'm reading this right, and will tie in with that Dragon Ball Heroes game. It seems like it's gonna involve Bardock somehow going Super Saiyan during his fight with Frieza. Super Saiyan Bardock has already been confirmed to be coming in the Heroes card...video game...thing...still not really sure how exactly that whole thing works.
Anyway, thoughts anyone? On the one hand, I think this is pretty cool. It's always nice to get more stuff, and I especially like something with Bardock who is just awesome. On the other though...too much 'fanon' stuff is leaking into stuff that has some official capacity. First SS3 Vegeta and Broly, then SS3 Future Trunks, now SS Bardock. It might seem pretty biased of me to call it out on this since I have a fanfic where Bardock gets the power (one that I should really finish one of these days), but that's on the fan level - seeing it in something that's at least semi-official is kind of off-putting.
Looking forward to the manga a lot, I haven given up on Toriyama ever drawing these himself for a long time ago. I always think of these as official fan fiction.
Official fan fiction...hmm...so I guess in a way, we could call it like an 'extended' DBZ universe? Kind of like how beyond the films, there's tons of novels for Star Wars that are considered various levels of canon?

It's already definitely better than either chapter of SD. Way better. I can't wait to read this, and hope we eventually get it over here. There's enough invarious sorta-DB manga that Viz really needs to be bringing them over.
EDIT: We got some more info from the same poster. It seems the manga is meant to be a direct sequel of sorts to the special, as there's a timeline detailing the special, ending with "However, Bardock lived!! You'll know the truth by reading this story!!". It also seems that Toriyama designed Chilled.

It was, it was. Chapter 2 especially, since at least Chapter 1 had some interesting changes to make it look like we were heading into a cool new canon of sorts. Why they didn't build upon that for the second chapter is beyond me.
