Digimon Xros Wars Discussion

I know this is technically the 02 section, but we had a thread on the old board, so I see no reason why we can't have it here as well.

I also make it to bring up this news.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-08-17/digimon-xros-wars-anime-to-get-2nd-year-this-october

This will push the series at least into the 60+ episode range, which makes it the longest series in the franchise now. As cool as that is in of itself, the series must be doing fairly well to keep going like that, but I hear next to nobody talking about it. Not just here, but anywhere (though I don't really frequent any Digimon-specific boards anymore, I'm sure it is buzzing pretty well on those at least).

I've only seen the first 3 or 4 episodes of this, so what does anyone who's watched further think of this series? I've heard a tidbit about

Spoiler: Highlight to view
the other two kids from the start of the series going back to the real world and never being heard from again
and honestly that rubs me the wrong way a bit. Does it handle it better than it sounds?

Re: Digimon Xros Wars Discussion

I haven't seen any of this show yet (I'm throwing myself at Toei's tender mercies--i.e, waiting for them to hopefully stream it), but I really, really want to. The animation looks much better then past shows, Minami Takayama's voicing the lead, and "We are Xros Heart" sounds like it'll be the best battle song yet.

Heck, who knows? If it ever gets licensed in America, it might get a good dub (One can only hope tongue ).

Something I find interesting is that after 02, Toei's apparently been trying to make each show as different as possible, in a sort of homage to different genres. I mean, Tamers was a slice-of-life adventure that turns into "Evangelion for kids", Frontier seems to be a Super Sentai/Power Rangers thing, Savers was a "Shonen Fighting" type of show, and now Xros Wars seems to be a mech show in the spirit of GaoGaiGear and Gurren Lagann. Interesting to note.

Re: Digimon Xros Wars Discussion

More news on this one that could also relate to Digimon as a whole.

If this is done right, this could be really awesome - multiverse stories usually are pretty cool. I really need to catch up on Xros Wars now then. yell

Re: Digimon Xros Wars Discussion

...I've just noticed that the poster shows what I assume are the new characters--but not one of the older leader characters. Which is...interesting. hmm

Actually, I thought this would be some kind of movie thing (which would be similar to what Toei does with Super Sentai), but it's a sequel show? I wonder how that'll work...crossovers are tricky things, y'know.

Wait...Tamers' director is directing? My optimism just skyrocketed.

Well in any case, it's aroused my curiosity. Maybe Toei could follow it up with...some Xros Wars streaming? Maybe? kitty

Re: Digimon Xros Wars Discussion

personally I think xros wars is easily one of the best digimon series if not THE BEST!

it has a great story, great characters, awesome soundtrack, throwbacks to the previous seasons of digimon and over all just an awesome anime

Re: Digimon Xros Wars Discussion

Crunchyroll is streaming the second Xros Wars series. This kind of worries me about a possible US broadcast/dub since this never happened with Savers and we didn't even get the first series streaming.

...Gah. Toei, you both irritate me and make me happy.

On the one hand, more uncut Digimon is always a good thing. But on the other hand, why the sequel series first? What's with Toei and showing the second part first?

I'll wait a bit longer for any possibility of the first show being streamed.

Re: Digimon Xros Wars Discussion

So, has anyone else followed along more on the news of this, even if they haven't been watching it?

It seems the crossovers really ARE happening, and at the very least so far we've seen

Spoiler: Highlight to view
Taichi (Adventure - that's right, not his Adventure 02 version), Masaru (Savers), Mimi (Adventure), and Ruki (Tamers)
and that makes it all the more likely that a good chunk of the others will also be on the way.

I don't even know the specifics of how this is all playing out just yet, but I looooovveee it regardless.

Re: Digimon Xros Wars Discussion

In case anyone's curious, Crunchyroll has started putting up Xros Wars (the first one, not the sequel series). Which is awesome. smile

I watched the first episode yesterday, and here are my basic thoughts:

* A Digimon show that actually has an animation budget! Awesome! It really improves the action (of which there seems to be a lot of).

* I recognized Minami Takayma (of course) as Taiki, Chika Sakamoto (who for the most part, makes Shoutmon sound completely different from Agumon), Daisuke Kishio as Tsurugi (he apparently does a LOT of roles in this show) and Nobuo Tobita as MadLeomon. The cast sounds great so far.

* I LOVE "We are Xros Heart." I've heard it on its own a whole bunch, but its use in the episode's battle was awesome.

Great first impression on the whole.

Re: Digimon Xros Wars Discussion

I heard about them finally getting the first part of the series up as well, which makes me very tempted to try and watch it - but I know how streaming goes for me. ^_^;;;

That said, I hope you enjoy it for what it is - and I agree, 'We Are Xros Heart' shows that Koji Wada has not lost an ounce of his talent.

Re: Digimon Xros Wars Discussion

Been a while since I've posted, but I'm almost halfway through the first part of the show (the first 30 episodes), so here's some more of my thoughts.

The show has a very episodic feel (heroes enter a new zone, search for McGuffin, fight the bad guys, find new teammates), but it does a good job of making each mini-arc feel relevant. What I find interesting about this show is that I find the plot more interesting then the characters--which might be a first for Digimon. That's not to say the characters are bad (I like Taiki for being a refreshing take on the typical "idiot hero"), but they seem a little underdeveloped. Oh well, there's still a lot of episodes left.

Baalmon's probably my favorite character thus far, and his mini-arc (with the exception of a VERY rushed opening episode), is the best part thus far, and it makes me excited for more of the story.

On another note, if this ever gets dubbed (original music please wink ), I think it'd be cool if Tom Fahn played Shoutmon. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of Digimon's dubs, it'd still be nice to carry over what the Japanese side did (having the original Agumon voice him).
