I was thinking that when I start cosplaying for the 2013 Ohaycon anime convention in Columbus,OH that I am going to cosplay as Shana from Shakugan no Shana. I was watching episode 7 of the final season of Shakugan no Shana and I love the dress that she was wearing so I'm thinking about doing a Commission Request to cosplayhouse.com to see if they can make the dress for me and also shana's wig. I dont know how to sew and that dress would be way to hard for me to make. I was planning on taking sewing classes and also there are some panels at the Ohaycon anime convention every year on cosplaying so I think that when I go this year that I will attend one of the cosplay panels.
when i heard of cosplay and how much it costs.. i flipped out! Til one of my freinds showed me that you can take second hand items from stores like the arc, salvation army or any kind of store like them and use the old clothes and stuff to become the character you want or need to be.... i was amazed to see how limitless it is! I'm gonna see if for ndk in denver next year that I'll atempt to do Jessica rabbit, and see if i can become kairi from digimon..lol thats gonna be tough.. but wish me luck!

I started cosplaying last year, and it's easy as long as you know the concept of your character and have a budget for each costume. (sometimes I need backup costumes in-case I need to replace one for some kind of reason I.E; rip costume or over spend on budget.) Anyway, I'm a newbie to cosplay and would like tips as well.
I tend to find that the cost of cosplay isn't too horrible depending on what you do. For example the pride and joy of my cosplay collection is one of Pride from FMAB (the pun was unintended I swear) . It only consists of a normal white dress shirt I owned, grey shorts I already owned, a vest , and about ten bucks of fabric some fabric to make shadows. I only needed to buy the vest and the fabric, and the vest gets worn at least once a week by me, so I don't even really count it as cost for a cosplay as much as I count it as part of my wardrobe.
On a similar note I've done Canada cosplay that was as easy as a red sweatshirt, a wig, and a stuffed polar bear. I think the key to people who want to cosplay but feel like its too much money or too wacky to do is combined something you may seen worn IRL, plus props that set you apart.
Right now I only have one cosplay I can't exactly wear in my normal day to day life, and that one was only $30, and for that price I couldn't go wrong for a fun costume!
I've been cosplaying since 2007. I only made one costume (with the help of my mom) and it came out pretty okay and didn't cost too much to make since I had most of the materials. After that, I bought whatever costumes I wore for cons. It can get pricey
One other way you could economize for cosplaying is noticing what you can cosplay as that have pretty similar outfits. For example, what's the difference between the blue Spy from Team Fortress 2 and the blue suit worn by the tenth doctor? The answer: the ski mask (or whatever it's called) that the Spy wears.
It's kinda funny how I noticed that too. I went to an anime convention cosplaying as the tenth doctor in said suit, and all the Team Fortress 2 mercenaries were represented there, except the Spy.

I don't really have much to cosplay with, but I do have a Naruto Hidden Leaf Village headband.

Obi Wan: Only a sith deals in absolutes.
Me: But that statement was an absolute...
