ColossalCon 2011

If anyone is interested in going to Colossalcon 2011 it will be held at the Kalahari Waterpark and Hotel June 2nd though June 5th. The guest list for this year includes, J. Micheal Tatum, Todd Haberkron,Vic MIGNOGNA, Lisa Ortiz, and Cherami Leigh with musical guest. Gavin Goszka. Not only is this con being held at a water park which I think is pretty cool they are also offering a trip to Japan if you can win best cosplay in the masquerade. For more info check out www.colossalcon.com
I will be there and hope you can too.

Its a great con and feels more like a little one for its size. Everyone knows everyone and feels more like a family con. I mean how cool is it thought this con is at the largest indoor water park in the United States that has a convention center. Really are meant to spend your whole vacation just there and go no where else. Any way I have been going for about three years now. I had to skip a year due to school.

Hey, you remember the tornados last year? Have you ever seen this facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/I-Survived-TORNADO-CON-2010/102944079754737

I really enjoyed the raves at Colossal con, probably my favorite anime con rave thus far.

By the way, there's a con in Traverse City, Michigan that's at the Great Wolf Lodge (another hotel that's famous for its water park) this September called NMAcon. NMACon is much smaller, this will be its 3rd year, the first 2 years it was held at Northern Michigan University.

I haven't heard of the other con. No I hadn't seen that page. To tell the truth I was kinda upset to see people talk about this as some kinda joke. I was on staff for the con and had to deal with some of the issues of making sure people where safe. I'm no longer on staff but I can't say any more about that issue. Any way I hope you can come and enjoy Colossal Con this year.

Ah, seeing it as a joke, is another way to cope. I was totally freaking out when it was happening. My biggest fear is tornados, so I was in tears the whole time. I'm sure you had quite a lot to deal with as staff in that predicament...

I'll definitely be at Colossal con this year, my friend already has the room reserved.

I'm not surprised you haven't heard of NMAcon, after all it's such a small convention and there are so many other cons popping up in michigan.

Re: ColossalCon 2011

Yeah Michigan seems to be a new state to have a lot of new cons. Ohio has over like close to 20 a year most being college campus cons, the three big cons in Ohio are 1. Ohayocon at 10,000+ attendees and 11,000 people total for 2011. Colossal Con at number 2 and Sugiocon at number three. The other ones are smaller but still get a lot of press. As for Michigan I know of YomaCon, and one other one that have reasonable size of numbers. As for coming to Colossal Con my friend has one of the suit rooms they normally give to the guest of the con. We got lucky and one of the few that was left was open. So I'm set, if your are going to get autographs this year remember no gifts are to be given to guest especially any made out of cake. Ask Vic or Aarron about that problem. Then there is also no Pedobear related items. Those are the two biggest rules on the list off the site I suggest you look into just in general. More and more cons are banning Pedobear related items, due to the wrong message it sends about the Anime community.

Out of the list of Voice Actors and Musical Guest who do you want to meet or see the most. The only one I have not met it is Cherami Leigh and I haven't interviewed Vic, Todd, or Cherami. So those three will be fun interviews to say the least.

Re: ColossalCon 2011

Haha, can't blame the banning of Pedobear. Lol.

I've been to Ohayocon and Colossalcon, but I have not heard of Suguicon. For Michigan cons, Youmacon is the biggest, I've been going since the 1st year and it was also my first con. JAFAX is the second largest and also the oldest con in Michigan. Then like 5 cons have sprung up in the last like 3 years, the best of these being Shutocon.

That sounds like an interesting story... I would hate to be the creepy fangirl type, especially when I'm involved in so many cons. I've only given a guest a present once, and that was at Ohayocon 2011, I gave Chris Sabat a box of DBZ Valentines. I don't normally do the whole present thing, I just thought they were neat and it was almost Valentines Day.

Re: ColossalCon 2011

Most conventions that I have been to are relax on things like that, the thing people need to remember is the guest don't have much room for taking things back to L.A, Houston, Dallas, or New York in some cases. I have been on staff for a lot of cons and mostly in Guest Relations, I have seen their amount of bags and normally its just one bag for the weekend that is stuffed to limit in clothes and stuff.
Sugiocon is more in KY then in Ohio but its in the Cincinnati area and is going to be moving into the city its self due to the size of the con. Now is that a confirmed report no but its a possibility due to its increasing size.
Colossalcon was my first real con to go to so its like my home con. I feel really at easy when I go to it. I know most of the staff, been on staff, and know most of the guest that are coming. I suggest if you ever want to meet guest work on staff in Guest Relations or be a volunteer. Being a voltmeter is the most important job in the Convention Arena. Sure you are a no buddy in the eyes of most fans but to the con you are valuable assets. As the more cons you do it helps for when you want to be on real staff. On top of that you don't have to work the long crazy hours, still most cons like volunteers that help out a lot.
