Welcome again to another lovely edition of Always Be Cosplaying! Katsucon is just around the corner and the anticipation is growing. Adam S. and I are going to be guests at the convention, so if you’re going please try to stop by the FUNimation booth say hi! The weekends leading up to the event have been filled with costume creating and general excitement as I figure out what to wear. Decisions, decisions.
Speaking of anime cons, this time, we are going to feature the works of one amazing dude you may have seen at conventions. He’s the wonderful artist, photographer, prop maker, costumer and good friend of mine, Lionboogy! Let’s take a look at just a few things he’s done, shall we?
Yes, that’s Fenrir, the motorcycle from Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. Yes, he built all that as a prop for all the FFVII cosplayers to pose with. Isn’t it breathtaking?
Lionboogy makes all his props purely as a fan passion and hobby. No business, no commissions. It’s all just for fun. Take a look at Syaoran and Fai’s staves from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle:
So so so beautiful, don’t you think? The shiny parts on Fai’s staff especially remind me of the Tsubasa Collected Memories box set that just came out. If you haven’t seen it yet, it is SHINY. Even more amazing still, it’s made of foam board! As a cosplayer walking around an event and posing for pictures all day, you DEFINITELY want your props to be as light as possible.
Speaking of light, check this out:
It’s automail from Fullmetal Alchemist handcrafted of sheet aluminum with foam backing! Bonus- the whole thing is completely comfortable and weighs about a pound. Less than the new Apple iPad. Luckiest Edward Elric cosplayer EVER. (insert "give an arm and a leg" joke here)
Now for the elegant side of props:
A globe and sceptre fit for a queen! These are props for Queen Esther as seen in Trinity Blood. They look so regal and sparkly! I’m hypnotized by the rhinestones…
You may be wondering with all these amazing props, does Lionboogy cosplay himself? Yes, he most certainly does! Here’s his Bumblebee from Transformers costume, a true work of engineering art:
Wow, I never get tired of seeing this costume it’s one of my personal all-time favorite cosplays. As you can guess, he’s a bit of a Transformers fan. Seriously, guys, this thing is awesome in every way imaginable. Look at all that detail! Is it wrong to think Bumblebee is huggable? If you thought this was awesome, you can see all of Lionboogy's costumes on his ACE profile and more cool stuff on his website, usagichan.com.
Whew, that’s it for this edition of ABC! Time to go back to Brand Manager land, being excited about Katsucon and having entirely too much fun with this little jewel of the Internet . See you all soon!
