English dub preview

I just watched the first two episodes of Asobi ni Ikuyo(Cat Planet Cuties) kitty . You can watch it here in the video section, no subscription required!

I have to honestly say that some parts made me cringe, especially in the first episode... yell tongue Being someone who watched the subbed version years ago, I notice a lot of changes in lines. Most noticeable change is, of course, the line from the title, "Asobi ni Ikuyo", which basically means "Let's go play", has been changed to the lines of "I dropped by". I know a lot of people were upset that the title got changed so much... I'm not saying it's a bad thing or anything, just an interesting difference. Script differences was humorous at times, but I felt indifferent at the parts when they started spewing out technical-babble just for the sake of having it. They definitely tried to make Erisu more technical/alien-like, which I did not get a feel for when I watched the Japanese version years ago.

One of the biggest things that I noticed is the name inconsistencies. Did anyone else notice that? Quest It seems to me that the actors have difficulty pronouncing "Kio" and "Aoi" consistently.

It was interesting to hear Aaron Dismuke after so many years. For those of you who don't know, he used to play Alphonse Elric in the first Fullmetal Alchemist series. If you've listened to the Sacred Star of Milos commentary, then you know about is recording situation... lol... I must say that his voice has changed SO MUCH! I wasn't sure if he would fit the character at first(still sounds kind of awkward), but it seems that he quickly adapted to the role. (Either that, or I just got used to his voice. lol)

Episode one in my opinion was kind of a mess(cheezy lines), but episode two made up for it. I'm somewhat pleased by the way it turned out, but I'm still not sure if it's worth buying...

You have by critique, so I was wondering what you guys thought of it. Help convince me to buy or not to buy it! wink

Re: English dub preview

I received my copy today and watched it already. Whether you should buy it or not depends on your budget, but I try to buy what I can to support the industry.

This one reminds me of the older days when dubs were over Americanized. Overall I wasn't all that pleased with the changes. In the end, I'm still glad I bought the boxset and can always play it in Japanese with subtitles.
