Re: Case Closed Update

No updates, FUNimation won't continue Case Closed and it will not be on Toonami since CC is old news.

Re: Case Closed Update

dman32152002, if you're with Funimation, you guys need to do more to engage the original fans of Case Closed/Detective Conan, and do more to introduce it to newer audiences. Because you guys at Funimation have basically turned your backs on Conan fans by NOT releasing any new seasons or movies FOR YEARS now, you do realize that Conan fans have left you guys, as far as waiting around for you to release new content, right? Conan fans have no choice but to buy the HORRIBLY subbed movies from Indonesian sellers, or scour the internet for places to watch them. The LAST thing you should be doing, is shutting down those fansites who are trying to keep the flame alive for U.S. fans of Conan! That just really pisses off the fans, big-time, to have finally found a place they could watch well-subbed newer episodes of Conan, only to find out Funimation had it shut down!!!! angry

I have been writing and sending in postcards for years now, begging Funimation to put out new box-sets and movies for Conan, I WANT to give you my money, I don't want to buy the crappy subs from Indonesia that read like they were translated by monkeys. But it's all fallen on deaf ears. You guys are too busy licensing new series that show more T&A, and let your older, incomplete series languish. Why don't you at least put out some limited edition sets, or make them available as print-on-demand? You said you need more of the existing box-sets to sell, well I've already bought & paid for every Conan DVD you guys have released so far. I'd guess most Conan fans have already bought the DVDs as well. Fans can't buy it twice over, so that means you guys need to get the series out there, to generate some new fans!

That's the problem, though. Newer generation fans want to watch their anime in as pure a form as possible, and Detective Conan was released in a time before U.S. anime companies figured that out. So the name of the series is different, the characters' names have been changed, and the series was done in a way to distance itself as far from Japan, it's home source material, as possible. It's really too bad you guys at Funimation don't decide to relaunch the series from scratch, redub some of the more grating voices, and dub it embracing the source material, instead of making the changes. I understand why the changes were made originally, but today's anime fans are more picky. That may be why more fans haven't gotten into it.

If you can't do that, then at least try to get the series out there for today's fans to notice it! Why not air it on the anime network? I have Time-Warner cable, and we've never gotten Funimation channel offered to us, much to my displeasure. We have an on-demand anime channel with limited offerings. Why doesn't Funimation try to get some of your series you want to promote onto other anime cable sites? Or how about shipping sets of the box-sets you have to Walmarts? They do carry some anime, usually just the popular, well-known stuff like Bleach, Naruto, FMA and Dragonball. But I'd love to see Case Closed actually on the shelves of places like Walmart and Costco, so non-anime fans might be tempted to pick it up.

I really hate the fact that when it aired on Adult Swim, it was buried at the 5a.m. slot, when hardly anybody was awake to watch it. It you guys could get it aired on some other network, maybe you'd start getting a newer audience for it. The way I discovered and fell in love with Kyo Kara Maoh was when it aired on one of the Asian cable networks in their anime block and I stumbled across it once while flipping channels. It was because I found the show so funny & sweet that I had to go out and buy all those DVDs, one disc at a time. (Hint, hint, we're still waiting for the final season of that series, plus the OAVs, to be released by Funimation, too!)

Okay, I know I've ranted on for long enough. But we Conan fans are beyond frustrated, let me tell you! You guys make it sound like it's our fault for not buying the DVDs, when most U.S. Case Closed fans probably already have them. Then your legal dept. goes out hunting down fan-sites who are filling the void you left when you ABANDONED Conan and his fans! If you want the fans back, you guys have to do something to bring them back to you, not just keep on cutting off their other sources. They're not re-watching the first 130 episodes you guys dubbed, they're watching the 425 other episodes that HAVE NEVER BEEN RELEASED STATESIDE, AND ARE LIKELY NEVER GOING TO BE, EITHER!! Cut us a break here, please! The ball's in your court, we U.S. Conan fans have been waiting A LONG TIME for you to serve! crying

Re: Case Closed Update

I agree completely with AngelCat. I too love Case Closed. And I also WANT to give Funimation my money. I WANT to PAY them for more Case Closed. I have already bought all the Season sets and all movies. I enjoy the dub. Many American Conan fans do. The reason there isn't alot of sales with this anime is because they stopped dubbing it. The Japanese is so much further into the Anime and that's why so many people resort to the subbed version. They have no access to an English version because it stopped at episode 130 and movie 6. And AngelCat is right, most subs are inaccurate and suck. Which is why I love to stick to the dub. It's alot easier to comprehend too. Funimation needs to realize that the reason the sales aren't doing well is because their advertising for Case Closed sucks. They don't sell it in popular stores. They don't air it on television. And when it was in TV, it was on way too early on Adult Swim. No one was up to see it. Most people are sleeping during the time slot Case Closed was set to. And not many people are going to wake up that early to watch a show. Also, they tried to target the wrong audience. The show isn't meant for older teens and young adults. It's actually meant for early teens and late kids (Ages 10+). It's supposed to actually be a FAMILY ANIME. Yes, for the FAMILY. They need to re air the show at an earlier time and possible on another channel. They need to do more advertising and sell it in more popular stores. Then, the audience will build up. Many shows have slow building audiences, but eventually the receive a big one. I support the Case Closed dub and would love to see more episodes and movies being dubbed. But Funimation needs to get back on track and give Case Closed another chance.

Re: Case Closed Update

Case Closed (TV) did not have enough sales. FUNi is not going to continue it, just to lose money, no sane company would.

Re: Case Closed Update

However, I believe FUNI has recently shut down the main fansubber for Detective Conan. This is an unusual situation as there haven't been any releases of Case Closed for some years now.

On top of that, Funimation is well behind the series in Japan and when I say well-behind, I mean, approximately 400 episodes behind. In other words, I don't see the point in shutting down the main fansubber when at the same time having no plans to release more episodes. The fact is that it would be very difficult to make money out of Conan in North America through their current business model. Either of one of two things is occurring: either TMS specifically told Funi to get the fansubber to shut down or there is some sort of streaming project in the works. Hoping against hope for the second option...

Re: Case Closed Update

The only way to save this show is to sell season sets. Not as many people know about the series, so maybe taking to the social network areas is the key to spreading the word about it. It's not difficult, just use hashtags like #CaseClosed,or something like that around Twitter. Take the same approach that people did bringing back Toonami. The more people know about the show, the more chances we as fans have at helping sales increase. Get it trending in a good way, and keep showing it to your friends, and talk them into buying seasons. I know I did, and it wasn't difficult at all.

Re: Case Closed Update

As many others, I have come due to the outrage caused by Funimation's actions towards the main fansubber for Detective Conan.

First of all, I'm a very avid Case Closed/Detective Conan fan who has bought every single season of Case Closed and every Case Closed movie, going as far as even getting my girlfriend's sister the whole series. I fully supported having Funimation reviving the series but sadly it seemed they had no plan to.

Although I see why Funimation is trying to protect the Detective Conan property for the Japanese companies, I feel I have been betrayed as DCTP was the main source for English Detective Conan. Now that they have been forced to stop, Detective Conan is almost completely ended for the English audiences. Hopefully Funimation or another company decides to do official subs, else the anime would have ended before an important junction in the show.

I feel there is nothing left now but to push Funimation or another company to produce more Detective Conan/Case Closed in order to save the show from becoming extinct to the English speaking population or to convince Funimation to allow DCTP to continue their process under strict conditions and supervision.

Please keep in mind that hate mail and complaining will not do anything, as a civil approach will be needed to proceed. As send before, try getting the attention of Funimation to let them know their fans WANT Detective Conan and are willing to make it worth their time.

Re: Case Closed Update

Pissing off the fans is not a good way to sell DVD's. The facts of the matter are simple:

  • FUNimation stopped doing CC.
  • Meitantei Conan is still going.
  • There is no announced plan to continue.
  • They are over 400 episodes and 10 movies behind.

As I understand it the fansubbing network FUNimation took down was essentially caught up with translating the 400 episodes and 10 movies for fans of CC to watch via the internet. If only FUNimation offered a way to watch subbed anime via the internet. Oh wait! They do! If only someone would go through the trouble of subbing all those episodes and movies. Oh wait! Someone has!
