BGC 2040

Another FUNimation rescue I keep forgetting about.

Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 was one of the first anime series I watched outside of Toonami and Saturday morning cartoons, so I'm really glad to see it'll be coming back into print.

Re: BGC 2040

I'd completely forgotten about it. I already have ADV UK's release and haven't even re-watched it so not something I'd be interested in except maybe on blu-ray if it was a good re-master (I can't even remember if this show was cell or digital). The older show I'd like to double-dip on at some point is Nadesico due to the old ADV overlays.

I completely forgot that FUNi had saved this as well. I might be interested in nabbing it, though my girlfriend has it already so I might just borrow it from her (it's been years since I saw it).

Actually, either one's not a bad idea...I haven't seen it since I became a more-rounded fan.

I'm pretty sure this show was cel, and I know ADV went through and re-mixed all the audio in 5.1 Surround, but can't remember if they did any video remastering for the Essential Anime Collection re-releases. It seems like they should have, but it's been so long that I can't remember if it was mentioned in any of the commentary tracks.

Re: BGC 2040

This series is like a walk down memory lane for me. Brings back fun and silly memories.

I think the latest Otaku USA magazine had an article in there on BGC 2040.

In other news, I'm curious to see how the live action BGC movie that's in filming right now will come out.

Re: BGC 2040

The original Bubblegum Crisis was MUCH better. Even though it was made in the 80s it had better animation (and more detailed too), much much better music, and more likable characters. 2040 is a pretty terrible joke compared to the original.

I know I'm comparing a 26 episode series to an 8 episode OVA, but... hey sometimes there are no excuses for things like Priss being a totally unlikable B-word or having bad pacing.

Well Coconut, I haven't watched the original, but I really loved watching this show. The music wasn't so good, but I do like Priss and the other characters. I don't know why, but something about Priss being cold and rather quiet cool. But that's my opinion. I love cyber punk and I think we both can agree on that. smile
