New Release Tuesday – Robots and Ammo

Happy New Release Tuesday! We’ve got two very exciting releases for you today: Jormungand Parts 1 & 2, and Robotics;Notes Part 1.  First up, it’s time to rock n’ roll! Let’s talk about Jormungand!

Jormungand synopsis:

Jonah is a child soldier and the newest bodyguard for Koko, an international arms dealer with an entourage of hired guns. The cold-blooded kid hates Koko’s line of work, but following her into the darkest corners of the black market might be the only way he can find those responsible for his family’s slaughter. Besides, his employer isn’t like most merchants of death. She uses guile and cutthroat tactics to keep her clients armed to the teeth—all while cultivating her own warped plan for the future of world peace. With the CIA desperate for her capture, assassins eager to collect her head, and the potential for every contract to end in ultra-violence, Koko and her comrades in arms bring the boom to every corner of the world.

Now for some robots.

Robotics;Notes synopsis:

Akiho and Kaito are the only two members of Central Tanegashima High’s Robot Club – but maybe not for long. The powers that be are threatening to shut the organization down. If Akiho and Kaito want the club to survive, they’ll need to win the upcoming hobby robot competition in Tokyo. With everything on the line, Akiho and Kaito devise an awesomely bold plan: build a giant fighting robot!

The Robotics;Notes Limited Edition comes with some beautiful art cards (see below).

Jormungand – Brush Up on Your Norse Mythology

Norse mythology and culture have been inspiring our daily lives for over a thousand years (our days of the week, for example, are actually named for the Norse Gods: “Thursday” actually comes from “Thor’s Day”). Pop culture is immersed in Nordic myths. You can see their influence in things Marvel comics and movies, the TV series Vikings, and even anime properties like Fafner, Ah! My Goddess, and Jormungand. No doubt some of you went to go see Thor: The Dark World over the weekend and enjoyed Tom Hiddleston’s Loki.

Loki’s an interesting character—not just in the Marvel universe, but in the actual Norse myths as well. Many accounts depict Loki as having three children with the Giantess Angurboda: the wolf Fenrir, Hel (who acts as host to the dead), and the world serpent Jormungand. Jormungand grew so large that it encompassed all of Midgard (aka “Middle Yard” or “Middle Earth”), the land where humans dwell. It reached such length that it encircled the earth, until it was able to bite its own tail. This is an example of an ouroboros that Fullmetal Alchemist fans will no doubt find familiar. In Old Norse mythology, there are stories of contests and feats of strength and struggles between Thor and Jormungand. In fact, legends said the serpent would wrap its way around Earth until the end of days and the last, great battle at Ragnarok.
