A Certain Scientific Railgun S Part TwoHappy New Release Tuesday!

Today we have the exciting conclusion to A Certain Scientific Railgun S. Part Two is now available on DVD! Click here to order now.

synopsis:

Sinister experiments and high-energy battles continue to rock Academy City in this series from the creator of A Certain Magical Index!

A sadistic program has been creating duplicates of the level-5 esper Misaka, then murdering her sister clones in the name of science. Now that the electromaster knows the truth about the organization, she’ll stop at nothing to bring it down—even if that means facing the power-hungry Accelerator in a fight that only one of them can walk away from. Elsewhere in the city, an adorable young girl named Febrie is brought into Misaka’s circle of friends. As they begin to learn more about Febrie’s past, they discover that she, too, is a victim of scientific forces in the city—and that’s something Misaka and the girls of Judgment simply won’t stand for.

A Certain Scientific Railgun S – Accelerator’s Whisper Caption Contest

EDIT: Contest is now over! Scroll to the bottom to see winning entries.

In A Certain Scientific Railgun S, Accelerator is the overpowered and deadly antagonist that our heroine Misaka tries to stop from killing her tens of thousands of clones, all created from a dark scientific experiment. His ridiculously overpowered abilities (featured in our previous scientific writeup, A Certain Scientific Analysis S) and sinister cackle are so iconic that they’ve even spawned an internet meme—Accelerator’s Whisper, an image macro based on his initial introduction.

In honor of the release of Railgun S Part 2, we’re running a caption contest for this famous scene! One grand prize winner and four runners up will receive a prize pack of Railgun merchandise!

Here are shots of the scene, with the original dialogue:

railgun accelerator

That’s a pretty creepy and tense scene! But we like to think that the gravity also kind of lends itself to some great parodies. Here are some we loved from around the Internet:

Friday the 13th – Kamijou Edition

It’s Friday the 13th! Anime has its share of characters that are down on their luck, but none really experience such misfortune as Kamijou Touma, protagonist of A Certain Magical Index. (You can catch his latest adventures in A Certain Scientific Railgun S parts 1 & 2, up for pre-order now, or in A Certain Magical Index II, streaming on FUNimation.com!)

Kamijou, as fans of the Index and Railgun series know, possesses a special ability called the Imagine Breaker, a power in his right hand that nullifies any supernatural forces, from esper abilities to magic. Although he has no esper or magical ability of his own, just raising his right hand can stop 5000 degree sorcery flames, psychic electric shocks, protective religious magic, and even (supposedly) the power of God himself. Yes, divine power is not immune to Kamijou’s ability, which also means that just by existing, Kamijou nullifies the unseen forces of fortune around him—meaning that he naturally has rotten luck, to the point that calling it out is basically his catchphrase.

As a result, he’s always low on food and money, gets bad grades, ends up followed around by troublesome (and violent) girls who want to fight and/or bite him, and generally ends up dragged into huge-scaled scientific and magical conflicts that really shouldn’t affect an otherwise ordinary guy like him (which inevitably almost always result in him being hospitalized). It could be said that the entire story of A Certain Magical Index is one of Kamijou’s terrible luck!

So, what do you think? Would you say that Kamijou is the unlucky?

A Certain Scientific Railgun (and its sister series A Certain Magical Index) is set in Academy City, a town full of superpowered espers with amazing abilities. We’ve previously posted “A Certain Scientific Analysis,” a look into the science behind protagonist Mikoto Misaka’s amazing Railgun electricity powers. (Check it out here if you want to learn more about real-life railguns and how Misaka’s powers stack up!) With Railgun’s second season Railgun S, we’ll take another look into the science behind esper powers, this time of the series’ main antagonist: Academy City’s top esper, Accelerator.

Pleasure to meet you, too!

Accelerator, who shows up in A Certain Magical Index and Index II as well, is the city’s top level 5 esper and participates in a deadly experiment to try to reach the transcendent level 6. He is named for his ability, which involves… well, we’ll let him explain it. What exactly is your ability, Accelerator?

Mathematical principles have never been this creepy.

“Whether kinetic energy, amount of heat, electrical charge, or any other vector, all it has to do is touch my skin, and I can transform it.” So what exactly does this mean?
