Fans Vote for Their Favorite Post-Miyazaki Director

In the wake of famed director Hayao Miyazaki’s announcement that he will be retiring from making feature films, fans are wondering who will step up to take his place in the industry. To find out, Goo Ranking (a poll website) asked 8,585 fans which anime director is their favorite now that Miyazaki has retired.

It comes as no surprise to us that several directors of FUNimation licensed titles have made the cut. In particular, Hosoda whose recently released Wolf Children film has been a fan favorite for its heart warming story about love and family.

Also among the top 20 directors are the following:

2. Hideaki Anno – Neon Genesis Evangelion

3. Mamoru Hosoda – Summer Wars, Wolf Children

5. Katsuhiro Otomo – Akira

10. Goro Taniguchi – Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

11. Seiji Mizushima – Fullmetal Alchemist

12. Tsutomu Mizushima – Blood-C

15. Keiichi Hara – Shin-chan

Then she met a man, who turned out to be a wolf, and together they built a family.Hana loved her mate fiercely, but fate took him from her, leaving her alone with two unusual kids she didn’t know how to raise. Frightened of being discovered, Hana and her wolf children fled to the countryside to build a new life. Raising her little wild things was an adventure. It left Hana bruised, scratched, exhausted, and joyously overwhelmed as her pups grew stronger and wandered further every day. This is a mother’s journey. Teach your children to chase their dreams – and smile through the tears as they disappear into the world in search of who they will become. Hana wasn’t always a mother, but it was always what she was meant to be.

Wolf Children – Character Profiles – Ame

Younger (Japanese: Amon Kabe / English: Alison Viktorin)

Older (Japanese: Yukito Nishii / English: Micah Solusod)

Timid Ame – named after the rainy day on which he was born – is the exact opposite of his big sister. He is a timid boy who worries his mother by crying himself to sleep every night. He shows little interest in exploring his wolf heritage, refusing to stray too far from the safety of Hana. Gentle and thoughtful, Ame feels more at home in the human world than in the wild.

Yuki – the oldest of Hana’s children – was named for the snowy conditions under which she was born. She is an adventurous youngster who loves to explore her surroundings. She has an energetic nature and talent for making messes – characteristics of her wolf side – that often make life difficult for her poor mother. Yuki has the fearless spirit of a wolf, and she feels more at home in the wild than any human dwelling.
